Columbia Dodge Photo  :shruggy:  Columbia, Missouri

Does anybody have a photo to post of this dealership ?  :shruggy: Gene ?

The only thing I have been told about the dealership is that it was only in business for a short time and the owner was the son of a wealthy resident and he paid cash to Chrysler to get the latest hot muscle cars and that he would "demo" them at the local dragstrip. In business 67-71?

Nice photo, certainly some interesting cars on the lot.

Reminds me of the dealership Kowalski passes by in Vanishing Point.

I don't honestly remember the name of the Dodge dealer in Columbia, MO during my college days.  I'm pretty sure there was one, on the north end of town... but it was not Joe Machens (the current dealership's name, they were/are the big Ford guys in town).  My Daytona's original selling dealership also went out of business, sometime in the early '70s.

Maybe Dave B. (nascarxx29) will unearth some old newspaper ads for your car from the Columbia Tribune?  (hint, hint)

All I know is that it was called Columbia Dodge.........that is also the name that appears on the shipping list. :popcrn:

Another possible search isn't Missouri one of the few states with DMV title search archives that go back to the 60s- and up.Where you can get every past owner and the first issue title from manufacture statement of origin AKA MSO.By sending in a vin trace

It might be a longshot, but, you could call the local newspaper.   Maybe they don't purge "file photos".

Yes, and no.

I was able to get information on my car, but in order to do so I had to hire a Jefferson City, MO Private Investigator.  Thankfully, he was a car guy and didn't charge me an arm and a leg.  Who knows what it took to get someone to extract the information out of the State's computer system, but it was still present 10 years ago.  If you call the DMV and ask whomever answers the phone to do the same search, the answer would be "No."  Perhaps followed by laughter.  Public servants, they are not.   :rotz:

The single page computer printout I received had just a couple of Daytonas listed (including 3--Daytona's F5), as well as a few other '69 XS Chargers (R/T's) which were titled in Missouri from 1968 through 1981.  Unfortunately, the VIN range on that single sheet doesn't cover Kevin's VIN so I'm not any help with his car.  If anyone does make an inquiry through a PI, don't bother searching for XX29.  Missouri recorded all their titles under the Daytona's MSO VIN, which began with XS despite what the dash plate reads.

Well, this is better than NYS DMV who only keep records 10 years back ::)

Really though, some outstanding information & photos. I was told it was a small dealership...I guess it was if that is the same building! My understanding is that the guy that owned the dealership was only interested in selling high performance muscle aka "Mr. Norm", and that he got Hemi's, six packs, winged cars, R/T's, and even though he was a Dodge dealer he had plymouth muscle as well. Maybe because he paid cash? :shruggy:

That building is no longer a Dodge dealer- but it's still being occupied as a used car dealer. Columbia Dodge shut down sometime in the late '90s and moved to Richmond B.C where it still operates. I still remember when my grandpa traded in his K-Car and bought a brand new 1995 Stratus from the New Westminster location pictured :)

Makes me wonder how many cars in that picture are still local and kicking around :popcrn: :scratchchin:
