New MP Torsion Bar Questions

I'm just wrapping up my front end rebuild.     Went with Energy suspension poly bushings and Moog
ball joints.

I got a set of MP performance torsion bars (.96)  from Summit Racing.    The part # is P1857784.

I've read on the old board and in my FSM  that the left and right TB's are not interchangeable.   Is this only
after they are installed and torqued ?

Both bars in the set I got have the same markings on them -   784R   085

Is there a left and a right or OK to go either way.

Thanks. :musik010:

The T-Bars will work on either side.

Thanks 8wheeler.

Anyone else have an opinion on this ?       My mother told me not to believe everything you read,
but the following is from an article called Torsion Bar Tango from the  arengineering website.

Does this apply only to OEM bars,  or is it BS,   or just one man's opinion ?

Let me know what you think -

Preset

Mopar torsion bars are preset at the factory in the direction of use. You can observe this preset by laying the bars down on a flat surface and observing how the bar is twisted. The driver’s side bars will have a 30 degree right hand twist. A passenger side bar will have a 30 degree left handed twist. Pre-setting the bars in this manner improves the load carrying capacity in the pre-set direction. But, the load carrying capacity is reduced in the other direction of twist. This is why it is so important to get the bars installed on the correct side of the car.

Chryco Psycho

the factory bars are # differently side to side & have to be installed on the correct side , the aftermarket bars may not

I have only used the mopar bars myself and yes they are marked and go in there
correct hole, but from what I have heard the other after market bars it does not matter.

As long as the length is the same, it does not matter which side they go on.

I know this is an old thread and 1970bbdodge has long since install the bars.  BUT, I just got a new set of the same bars from Year One and they are definitely marked for the different sides. 785L & 784R.  It sounds to me like Summit screwed up the order and just didn't want to deal with it.  I hope 1970bbdodge doesn't experience any problems.   Bob

i have all ways known torsion bars to be sided   left and right . the  M P torsion bars i  bought  for my charger  ( 1"  P5249159 )
were sided  L & R.  but that was 2 years ago  . how about calling  M P  direct and  ask, they  might of changed the marking or some thing .but it sounds you have 2 right side bars to me.  ,i know it is probably to late now.
