Hearing that long time Dodge stock car driver Don White has passed away today at the age of 89.

All time USAC stock car winner (53 wins)
All time winner at the Milwaukee Mile  (14 wins)
Two time USAC stock car champion 1963 and 1967
Top three in USAC points every season 1962 thru 1969
11 ARCA wins
24 NASCAR GN starts

A quiet man who did his talking on the race track.

At least he had the good fortune to enjoy that reproduction door you did for him Aero426. Sad to loose another legend. :rotz:

Wow, just seen him on April 17th. I was walking into our local restaurant and he was coming out. I asked him if he was Don White and he said "I use to be" and smiled and shook my hand. I told him we had done business some 30 years ago with parts and machine work. He was friendly and seemed to be moving pretty good for 89. Back in the day he wasn't easy to deal with and not to friendly sometimes. One thing I remember the most is how neat and clean everything in his shop was and that included himself. RIP

Some great photos being posted up guys... sad to see another racing legend from years gone by pass away
"An aggressive exterior with power to match was enough to pull in the performance boys-especially when abetted by a pair of pipes blaring out the back, and brawny red-sidewall rubber hitting the pavement."

I was lucky enough to meet Don a few years ago,  (thanks to a member here)   was a very nice guy him and his daughter gave us the 25cent tour, and showed us all the trophy's and pictures,   he even signed some of the sponsor decals he ran on his charger in 72-73

Interesting story from 2002 about Don's connection to the #88 Charger, and lots of other Mopar history.

I cant believe he used that for a backslash behind his sink!  How cool would that be to have hanging in your place?  RIP Don.
When I die I want to go like my Grandfather did, quietly in his sleep.  Not screaming like the passengers in his car.

Cars outside the funeral home last night.   The Charger as given to Don by Bob McCurry of Dodge for winning the 1967 USAC championship.     It is a loaded R/T with air, power windows and a 440 auto.   Car has been in and out and back into the family with many twists and turns.    All five of the current and past owners were in the room last night.    Don's daughter owns it today.

The 1961 Ford Starliner is a restoration of the car that Don went 161 mph on the sands at Daytona Beach.

And a rare pic of Don in the later years.
A one man band, handling all aspects of the team.

RIP Don. He must have had a lot of fun racing back in those days. The days where a driver really made the difference.
