I was planning on getting rid of the points and condenser by installing a Pertronix Ignitor an the recommendation of my mentor (who always prefaces stuff by saying...be sure to ask those mopar guys).

When calling to order the part it came up that there were Chrysler distributor and Prestolite distributors installed in 1968 383 2 barrel automatic Chargers

I took the distributor out and can see no part numbers.  Comparing it to the service manual it looks 90% Chrysler / 10% Prestolite.  Mine has an oiler that isn't shown on the Chrysler part.

Part 2 is should I go with the Pertronix or would you advise another route?  Completely replace the 49 year old distributor with a new-fangled electronic thingy, or?

What sayeth thee?

You have the Chrysler distributor, the Prestolite has a cast iron housing.

I'm a big fan of the Pertronix, more so than the factory electronic.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
