I am trying to find my 70 superbird that i now regret selling. I purchased my first Superbird in march of 2013 and then later sold it in january of 2015. Here is the information on the car as follows.

                       1970 Plymouth Superbird
                       FYI Lemon Twist Yellow
White interior bucket seats with console
                       V code 440 six pack
                       VIN: RM23VOA167047

This was a one owner car that i had purchased in Grand Rapids , Michigan from a guy named Mike Partridge.  So one day when i was flipping channels on the TV i see my Superbird on stage at the 2015 Indy Mecum Auto Auction. I had contacted mecum auctions to find out who purchased my old bird but they would not give me any information. Ive also tried to contact the person who had purchased it from me but i didnt have any luck . I just joined this site and i am glad i found it !
If anybody on this forum can help me reunite with my Superbird or knows where it is or has any information on the lemon bird please let me know . also pm me , thankyou !

Several of us here the car well from when Mike owned it.    It was kind of sad to see it at auction like another piece of meat.      I don't know where it wound up.

thanks for the reply we will have to keep searching !

Was Mike the original owner ?  I though he told me he bought it early on but it was a repo or something ?  or am i just confused ? :shruggy:

From the way Mike told me that he purchased the car in December 1970 and had it till 2013 when i purchased in March or April 2013. Mikes Superbird was featured in two mopar magazines in the eighties , i still have the magazines , i wish i still had the car but god willing i will find it !

Aero426

I didn't think he was the original owner.

yes this is how i found the superbird from this ad on the internet back in 2013 and i bought the car kept it in my garage until january 2015. I had been in seach of a all original yellow superbird for many years and i had finally found exactly what i was looking for. My plans were to keep the car all original and never to do a full restoration on the car as long as i owned it . this superbird amazed me by all of the original chaulk markings on the inside of the door jambs ,under the trunk and under the hood and engine compartment and also all of the original decals and information labels. My plan was to keep the superbird until the day i died but do to my fathers bout with cancer my family was running out of options financialy and i had no other option but to step up to the pump and help them and my father get through this terrible time in our lives. this is when i had to do what i had to do and sell my dream car. Fortunitely everything seems to be going well with my father sofar . this way i am in search of my superbird and hopefully i can buy her back and reunite her back into the family. thanks for the reply does this Steve know how to track down the current owner ?

nascarxx29

the reply on facebook   Steve Stasko The guy who bought the car off of the person looking for it, is a Corvette flipper from my hometown. He really didn't know what he bought, other than it was a Superbird. He called me asking how to determine if the car was numbers matching and etc. I seem to recall he wanted $165k for it. It brought a good bit less at auction when he took it there. Quite a few people who know the guy were hoping he took a beating on the sale...he's that type of guy...lots of friends...

I hate to say it, but it seems like a fishy story.  I was at that auction and bid on that car.  Based on how it was presented, I am not sure how you owned it in between.  Seems you would have known most of this unless this was flipped several times in a short period.

Call Mecum again and give them your full information and tell them to pass it on to the new owner.  If he or she wants to contact you they will.   G

it is because i never registered the car i payed cash for it . when i sold it i sold it with a open title from the original owner.

If you are in a position to buy,  why don't you keep your options open for a different Superbird?

I find it hard to believe that the Auction House let you put a car on the block that wasn't registered in your name! Not a hope in hell that would be allowed here..

Read the first post... he didn't sell it an auction.  He later saw it at an auction after he sold it.  If I was planning on keeping a completed car though I would definitely register it my name and I'm assuming most people would unless you want to flip it and not pay the tax on it.

last post nailed thankyou !  yes this is what happened the owner after me put the car on the auction block! not me .

Why put in writing what is illegal unless your a dealer with TAX id. Your just opening yourself up to the tax man or worse.  I guess if you did title it Mecum would have known and would be more willing to pass info on and the guy who bought it could not pass it off as a one or low owner car.  Good Luck with your effort.  G

Purchase.. not sale. Collected via state / province tax rate at time of registration.  :brickwall:

Mind you... on the sale of a car, I would be expected to pay capital gains if I sell my superbird for more than I originally paid for it (and costs of improvements). Taxed on 50% of the gain at my income tax level. If I was to sell it I can tell you that my Bee restoration cost invoices would quickly state Super BIRD.. not BEE..  :nana: to the tax man..

So when I see a car sell at auction (Mecum etc), not only is there the 10% buyers fee, but also tax on the purchase price, if registered.
So the true sale is Auction fee + tax?

What is the average tax rate across states?

thanks

Plus throw on another 35% if you buy from the U.S. :eek2:

It varies state to state but about 3 to 7 percent.  At many of the state auctions they force mecum to collect tax at your registered state rate, unless your a dealer.  So yes it can add up.
