Looks like there is more than one type of trunk seal being marketed for 71 B-bodies. A "D" profile and more of a "V" on its side, maybe others?... can anyone tell me which is correct for a 71 'runner?

The "D" shaped seal is to my knowledge an A-Body application and started in May of 72.  For the 71 B-Body, I am thinking that your car takes what you are calling the "V" shape without the extra lip.

As far I recal lmy 74 uses the one on the top right corner

I have attached a picture of the two different profiles that offer for the 63 to 72 model Chrysler products.  There is a actually a third that I did not picture.  The one that is not pictured is basically the same as the one on the left, except for the fact that it is hollow and once compressed, it forms itself very well to resemble the "V" shape without a lip.  To my understanding, the hollow style came about in 1972 as well.  The style with the lip is more common on the 63 to 70 body styles.  On these cars, you had a lip which hung over the gutter locating the seal to the body.

Ok, thanks a bunch guys for taking the time to reply and post pics. Really helpful.

Here's a pic of the weatherstrip AMD sells for 71-72 Charger/RR (I know, I didn't think of them for weatherstrip, just body panels):

Looks like the "V" shape is what's called for...

The trunk weatherstrip that AMD markets is a product from Ron Felwock business, FDC.  AMD stocks a variety of parts to compliment their product line and sources them from a variety of vendors and manufactures.
I know that some people have complained about the Metro trunk seals as being too thick and will not compress enough and causing the deck lids to sit high.  The seal in the top right corner is a GM door seal and most of the door seals are typically thicker in cross section than the Mopar 63 to 72 trunk seals.
