E5 Charger

I was searching online for part# 3748263, which is a flexible coupling for the steering column of a 74 Charger. This was the first year for this part. Besides NOS, it came up on a few part sites for Dodge trucks as early as 1978, but mainly Diplomats & Fifth Avenues from the 80's and trucks into the 90's. The drawing looks the same, but is it possible this would be the same size? Did Dodge use the same part number for other parts after the first one was obsolete? Or, could this be the same part? Sure beats the NOS prices!

I think several universal pieces will fit. I think I simply installed the closer one made locally and fit good

I'm more interested in the part number and if they used that same part for all those years.

Nacho-RT74

my 74 Parts catalog shows 3748267 not 3

and if you care, on FBBO we talked about the 73 replacement, and the 74 replacement floated on:  Dorman Help replacement part number 31002 available at Rockauto in $8 with some hardware and this on same price with free shiping:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dorman-Steering-Coupler/311589633134?epid=1217875879&hash=item488c307c6e:g:Rd4AAOSwi8xaAjUH&vxp=mtr

specs: DORMAN 31002 Steering Coupling Disc Kit; 2-5/8" (2.625) O.D. ; 4/5" (0.806) I.D

Now, about later or supersedes from the Chrysler PNs, nothing floats on, neither the Dorman application list, what could also help on track which cars use that one and make the crossover between both PNs

The 3748267 part number is for manual steering, mine is power. Thanks for the tip on the Dorman kit. The ebay link doesn't ship to Canada, and a search shows some crazy shipping prices (anywhere from $20-$40) not to mention the brokerage fees. I think I can find this locally.

Nacho-RT74

my parts catalog doesn't specify diff between manual or power steering. Just states that one ( 19-15-23 )

or maybe is the 3748310 ?

about the kit... yes well, I guess locally can be better, but Rockauto still gets them

I'm unsure if the Dorman piece is really the size... will need to be measured ( and my car is thousand miles from home )

It looks like we have the same book. If you look at the top of the page it should say Manual Steering. Go to page 19-5 for the Power Steering page. I just measured mine at 3.5" OD and 1.5" ID, so both of those are a bit small. Might still work if the four bolt holes line up. Another reason to go local, I can bring mine to match.

Nacho-RT74

yeap, you are right LOL... never took care to check for the next section where there is also a 19-15-23... but on Power steering chapter LOL....
