I've got a HP 440 that was rebuilt in 2005. It got the speed pro flat top generic pistons and bone stock everything else. Open 906 heads, edelbrock 600.
I was wondering if i could get recommendations to pep it up a little bit. I was thinking a cam w/ lifters, new intake, and possibly new carb. Thoughts?

Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Should have mentioned I'm trying to stay under a $1000 haha

well, new pistons with a decent/higher Compression height could be on $350-380 rate, from KB

:icon_smile_big:

that will allow you on a larger cam selection, on $120-150 rate.

What about going with the 75cc Edelbrock cylinder heads? Not a total fix but it should bring the compression up a bit.

For the little static you gain in the 75cc, you lose 1 pt dynamic due to the material change.

Yep, the quicker heat dissipation of the Aluminum Head,(all things being equal) tends to "like" .7 to .8 more CR than Cast Iron down around 9 to 9.5:1 ?
add to that...
the Piston quench distance is still .100" down the hole plus another .040" for the Head gasket ?

just say'in.... anything can be done I guess ?
But once a guy gets down to the skinny of costs ? it then becomes a wuffor ?

$1,200.00 E-Street Heads #5090
     $89.00 Head Bolts
$110.00 Head Gaskets & Intake Valley Pan
$300.00 Cam/Lifters, Timing Chain & Gears while you are in there, with a Frt end Gskt Set ? (CompCams XE268-4 Part #23-223-4, Lifters 822-16, Fel-Pro 2716
and
$300.00 to get the E-Streets Milled .030" down to 70 CC's for good measure
$800.00 Cheap Carb & Holley Street Dominator Intake 300-14
__________________________________________________________________
  $2,800.00
Plus a bunch of Labor.

Which if the Pistons are still .100" down the Hole ?
Gives you around a 9.7:1 Compression Ratio 440 Engine, with a .140" Quench Distance ?
It will run, but I wouldn't get too crazy rpm-wise if you don't know what rod bolts etc are in the engine ?

Option # 2
$235.00  Cam & Lifters,  NO pressure/NO V/Springs, etc.,  so stay with just the 268H sold as a Cam/Lifter Kit under Part #CL21-215-4
  $65.00  T/Chain & Gears / single bolt.
$50.00 Frt End Gskts & Valley Pan
$300.00 Intake manifold
$500.00 Carb

$1,165.00
It is what it is.... once the rpm's are up a bit it's OK to 4,800 rpm ?
