Yeha I have a 904 that doesn't shift in gear I think the front pump is gone.  Also, It leaks from the pan gasket.  How much for a good overhul and shift kit?

$320 plus shipping.  your location? i ship via greyhound.

i live in groton, CT 06340

we can do this one of two ways:

(1)  You send me the money, I ship the trans to you where you pay for shipping when the trans arrives

or

(2)  You send me the money plus shipping, I ship the trans to you.

I do not charge for packaging fees.  I will ship the thing with a heavy cardboard or plywood bottom and bubble wrap/tape the sheit out of it.

let me know what you want to do.

I can build a trans for you mike, without a core if you like.  It will cost you an extra $75 though (the price I pay for them).

oh, i'm guessing i'm in the way below 400hp range(it is the numbers 383 that left with a 290hp with a 2 bbl).  I have a mild 383 with a .484 cam 750 holley hp, eddy perf intake headers, msd 7 ignition, 3.23 SG and the only other thing i'm going to do is change the cam to an engle k56 or k58(have to talk to ron again about the k58 and see if it will be ok)
possibly put a gear drive in it(cause i like the noise)... other than that nothing special

The reason i listed a bunch of stuff is cause i really don't know what the HP is(but i'm learning from you guys everyday).  But you can see it's just a fun street machine and i'd like to get a little screeching going on icon_smile_big

oh 2500 stall already there, as i said in an earlier post.  maybe i don't need a whole bunch of stuff added to the tranny, but your the expert and i'll take your advice.

thanks for asking

i can tell you now a stock 3 planetary trans can handle up to 450-500 hp all day long.  I know, I ran one in my 71 Charger that was strictly a bracket racer, for 4 years.  Sold the car so I know longer have it.

I bet your 383 will prolly kick out around 350hp so building a huge monster trans is not necessary.

I would just go ahead and put in a stock rebuild, a 3.8 kickdown lever, increase rear sprag fluid flow, new sprag roller kit, new thrust washers, and a shift kit.  Increase the line pressure a tad for that good 1-2 bark, match the governor in the back to your desired shift point and call it good.

If you want other things like a deep pan, hardened pump gears, lower gear set, rollerized drums, etc. etc.  you are talking big money.  But honestly, I do not believe you need all that racing gizmos.

727's are strong transmissions, and I tear them down completely and clean everything spotless.  I have the entire assembly and housing hot tanked by my local machine shop (and I am nice enough not to add that $43.00 into the trans cost Cheesy )

Just let me know what you wanna do and I will do it for you.

i will send the money regardless as soon as you say go.

my email address is rmdracing@adelphia.net

now if i could just find a good chunk with an SG 3.55 in it(for cheap), i'd be on top of the world.

Hey RD, you got time to overhual my stock 904?  It won't shift out of drive but it shifts fine through all of the gears, so I have no clue what up with it.  Also, do you know if a 727 can be used as a column shifted trans?  How much to ship trans to you from Columbus Indiana 47201?

Thanks

can you explain to me more what it is doing.  You say it will not shift "out" of drive, but by shifting through all the other gears, that is technically "out" of drive.

If you want, I have 904's around, I will just charge you a core charge of $75.00 plus the overhaul cost.  Let me know.  I have time, but MIKEPMCS is in front of you.  I could have yours done in 3 weeks just due to me moving houses and waiting for my garage to be finished.  Let me know.

Its wierd, i just drove it and everythig worked great then 15 minutes later, It has no reverse gear and drives forward in neutral, but it shifts into 2nd smoothly.  It made no noise prior to this happening nor does it make noise now.  I'm not a trans expert, but something is wrong.  I might be interested in buying a core from you and having it rebuilt, however, i'm in no hurry since i will be unable to work on the car for a month or two due to military commitments.

anything is possible.  A simple adjustment could be in order.

Steps:

remove all shifter linkage to shifting lever on transmission.

place shifter all the way to the rear position (this is park)

slowly move shifter lever forward through R, N, D, 2, 1 to make sure it will easily move into those gears without any issues

place shifter back into the park position

place your shifter (on column or floor) into park

put shifter linkage back on shifter lever that is on the transmission

if linkage will not fit or reach, you will need to adjust the linkage out (there are adjusting bolts on the linkage)

once adjusted, have someone shift from P through 1 and make sure each gear is engaged at the transmission.

Drive and test it.

do that, and we will go from there.
