So I ordered a nice NOS gas cap from ebay and guess what? It doesnt fit!

Guy who sold it to me says there were 2 different types in 70 and is mine vented or not.

My fuel pump has a return line thats blocked off and its a 440 6 BBL so im guessing the answer to that is 'yes'?

Any help appreciated.

Non vented. There's only one filler neck for a Bird and '68/69/70 B bodies for that matter and probably many other behind the plate years. Vents are built into the tank, no need for a vented cap. If it doesn't fit the filler neck it's not for a '70 Bird...

LOL Wingnut, can you be any more blunt. I always forget about the Nany state.  :slap:

I'll have to go out and check my 3 caps, I was pretty sure they're not vented so that fuel doesn't slosh out of them.

Why assume I'm the one that's wrong? I had to make sure I wasn't going mental. Here's the OE cap on my Superbird and a repro on my BEE (the OE is in a marine can, but I assure you it's NOT vented either!). Hell I even checked my '69 Dart, it's not vented either...

I believe the correct cap for a non California emissions Superbird is the one
Wayne is showing us from his yellow Superbird.
It should be "NOT VENTED" and have the tab that goes across with an
opening and NOT the 2 separate end tabs.
There should also be an "S" stamped into the rivit like the one in the wrong caps with the 2 tabs.

Yes John   ... as you can see on the repro, while they stamped the cap NOT VENTED they riveted on the two tab turn "key". And if you look up you can see the formed V VENT track that they didn't use as there is no hole into the cap. The old "save part count to make repro crap". Two formed caps (one with NOT VENTED and I assume the other VENTED and only one turn key to cut their part count. I need to dig out my OE and restore it and get that repro thing off the Bee.

The Bird cap, as I show full of gas, is NOT vented. If you stare at it you can see the "S" in the rivet.

I'll check the 1/4 panel thing when I see the car next. Only venting I saw today was a short 6" line from front of tank that goes nowhere. There's a fuel hardline running up into right front fender that goes nowhere. Has been blocked off.
