Heater Hoses

Good Day, question regarding heater hoses.  Does it  matter how they are connected to the firewall coming off the water pump?

You see lots of pictures of restored cars and they like to run them side by side but if you look at factory pictures the hoses cross over by the time they get to the fire wall
