Is the VIN on this the actual VIn of the King Daytona of Big WIllie?

Please correct me on my errors, but here is what I think I know
Big Willie had the King Daytona-Orange,
Tomiko had the Queen Daytona that I think was green
Willie then had the Duke and Duchess Daytona that he painted yellow, sold to Gary French and then sod eventually to a fellow in MN that restored it

The King Daytona was the one in 23lane blacktop, but it was never yellow, and is rumored to have been destroyed by too many acid dippings. May have later been a fraudulent resale of a fake car?

The Queen Daytona has been rumored as destroyed in crashes in the early 70's

I will be interested in responses, not to the  Duke & Duchess car but to the King car.
Thanks
Bob

Is somebody trying to make a new tag look old :shruggy:

6bblgt

the scammer had 0% of Big Willie's KING DAYTONA - I bet that VIN tag is aluminum, NOT stainless steel

Hi nascarxx29,                 17 October 2022

That ad looks like it's from the DSAC News Letter, New Berlin, WI, Correct?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ernie,                17 October 2022

Still ducking the Porkers.

When I flew to Alabama for the fenders eons ago, the gentleman had a Daytona backlight he wanted about $250 for. Problem was the glass was still in the Daytona window plug which had been cut out of the roof (with a torch) along with an overly generous portion of the roof. It was too large to fit in the small truck I rented and was too large for one scrawny person to handle. Have a feeling it came from the Daytona that donated the fenders.

I think all that stuff was advertised in the DSAC Newsletter sometime around 1979 - 1981, if I'm not mistaken. If someone has a collection of them they may be able to find the ad. Come to think of it, I may still have the letter the guy that had them for sale sent me; I'm sure I ran across it several months ago. Hope I find it again; if I do, I'll make a copy for us and send you the original.

In hindsight, I should have bought the backlight and somehow fit it into the truck. Don't know where I would have stored it once I got back to Texas. Probably in the master bedroom.

The trip back to Texas was miserable, the US national 55mph speed limit was in affect, the U-Haul truck had a governor that kept it below 55; when I approached 55 it would hunt: down then up and then back down, then . . . . Tried everything I could to disable it. Tough when the only tools I had were my fingers. Seems like it took two days to get to back to Southlake.

Hope all is going well with you and your Daytona. It's going to be a great day when she is finished and you can take her to the car shows. We are looking forward to seeing her in all her glory. If all goes well, we will be going to Ohio in September 2023 to my 65th HS Reunion. On our way back home to Phoenix we plan to stop by to visit you and Bob in Indiana, then on to Michigan to Visit LEON then to Kanas to Visit Mike and then Phoenix to visit ourselves. Hopefully our Pups will be along with us.

Take Care Amigo

Hi, nascarxx29,                17 October 2022

You FOUND IT !!!! That's absolutely cool and amazing.

When I got there, he had the Daytona backlight "Assembly" sitting off to one side of the totaled Daytona. The fenders and hood were set aside for me. I also bought a trunk lid but it wasn't a Daytona lid. The hood was yellow, Bob has it and the trunk lid. The Daytona was a mess and pretty much gutted. Engine and transmission were history.

He asked me if I wanted to buy the backlight, I looked it over and declined. It was a large piece of the Daytona and looked like a bigger job than I wanted to tackle for a rear window. Lousy foresight.

I forget how many acres of cars he had, quite a few. I'm going to guess he was about my age at the time. I was 40 in 1980 so it should be easy to figure out my age then by the year of the DSAC newsletter.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the DSAC Newsletter publication date? Need it for a memory check.

Thanks so much for looking for, finding it and for posting your find. Sure do appreciate it.

Hi Dave, You also got something out of the News Letter. This is almost unbelievable.

I believe the earliest ad found was in 76 and could have been later.I have all years and both club newsletters in milk crates from the start.I read them while organizing piles. I seem to remember daytona car and parts ads somebody have mentioned .The back window kinda threw because I didn't recall that in reading them. But your description was very accurate from alabama to hood and fenders I had it narrowed down

Hi Folks,                17 October 2022

Seeing the News Letter and Monroe Schellinger's name at the bottom, reminded me of the many conversations Monroe and I had over the years. He was a great gentleman and told me many stories of his life's adventures. I remember calling him only to be told he had passed away. It was a heart breaker. I do miss him.

Hi Doug, we've talked a few times in the past. Sorry I haven't kept the communication going. Learning of your Father's passing was like being in a sail boat and having the wind knocked out of the sails. He was a great man and a real pleasure to have a conversation with.

Hope all is well with you. Will try to contact you tomorrow. Don't think you'd appreciate a call today, think your time now is 1044 PM CDT.

God Bless and Please Take Care

Hi nascarxx29,                17 October 2022

Thanks a bunch.

I was still in Ohio in 76. Left there in early 1979 for Texas. If my memory is OK I seem to remember flying to Montgomery Alabama in the spring or early summer of 1980. I rented the truck in Montgomery and drove to Gadsen AL. I'm now going to make a real effort to find the letter. It should be in my office here in Phoenix mixed in with all the stuff we brought from Texas.

It's hard to explain but this bit of communication has awakened my desire to get to work on our MOPARS. Thanks so much.

Now it's time for us to have our supper.

God Bless and Thanks Again
