TTI exhaust system

I have a stock-ish 440 with HP manifolds and need a new exhaust system. I'm not s huge fan of the X pipe sound so I'd like to go with an H pipe and 2.5" pipes. Is anyone running the TTI system with the Dynomax super turbo mufflers? Would you go with something else?

I ran the TTI 2.5" exhaust with x-pipe and super turbo mufflers with Hedman headers. Worked pretty good and the sound was pretty mellow. It was really too mellow and there was a pretty bad drone around 2000 RPM or so.

I switched to Dynomax Ultra Flows, 17283, and I thought there was a performance increase and it definitely sounds better.

In my case, the engine itself has a greater effect on how loud or mellow it sounds. Same exhaust, two different 440's. Smog 440, it was offensively quiet. 440 with .590" solid roller and 10.2:1 compression is pretty loud. I'd still go with Ultra flows over super turbos tho :Twocents:

"Offensively quiet"
I love that!

I have heard good things about the Ultra flows. I'll get those. Thanks!

Yeah, lol  stopped at a red light a lady commented at how quiet it was. Something to the effect of "is it running? or it doesn't sound like a Dodge Charger." I really didn't know what to say.

Anyway, I don't think it's because I'm getting older, but I've always appreciated an effective exhaust system. I.E. the quieter the better, but if it compromises performance too much I'm gonna go with high flowing muffler.
I'd think that Ultra flows on a 2 1/2" system with manifolds and a crossover would perform well without being too loud :drive:

I ordered the TTI system without mufflers. I asked which muffler size they use originally and got this response. The Ultra Flow 17513 should be a good fit then. Did you have to use slip ons for the shorter mufflers?

• 2.5" MUFFLERS:  62-74 B-body exhaust systems were designed using the Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers #17748 (25.5" overall length - offset inlet/center outlet).  Using other mufflers may require modification to the muffler slips (cutting & welding) for proper fit and alignment due to the muffler case length and width differences.  Applications using mufflers longer than TTi systems were designed for will require shortening the outlet end of the H-pipe or X-pipe.  Using mufflers shorter than TTi systems were designed for will require "Slip-Connectors" for additional length.  Slip-Connectors are sold separately.

As I recall, the muffler side of the tail pipes were a little long which should help with any length issues if they arise. Although 17513 seems to about the same length as what TTI would've shipped with the exhaust.

+1 for UltraFlows, I have dual 3"'ers on my car going into NASCAR style boom tubes so my system will sound quite a bit different from the TTI full length kit. Even with the side dumps it's not THAT loud in the car and mellows out a good deal at cruise.

Here's two videos from when I first got the system together, always happen to go out for a rip and grab some more  :D

I've used both Super Turbo and Ultra Flow full length mufflers with exhaust manifolds.  They both drone in that 1800-2000 rpm range under light throttle.

Hmmm. Any other recommendations? Borla maybe?

Full length TTI headers to 3" exhaust, with X pipe here... Dynomax Ultra Flow... I like the sound. Mine idles with a slight rumble, but I consider it still "polite"... it really lights up when I rev and gives the sound that I like, but isn't bad at an idle. If you want a sound-clip sometime, shoot me a PM and I'll get a video.

I don't.  I just live with it.

I have used factory replacement type mufflers and there is no drone.   My cars with headers did not drone.

My general conclusions, based mostly from observations of what others have experienced and done:
1) Exhaust manifolds are more likely to drone than headers,
2) The condition seems a bit reduced with lower gear ratio, I think because you get through the drone zone earlier and faster.
3) Automatic trans are worse than manual trans, likely because you can more easily "drive around" the drone zone.
4) Smaller cam drone more than larger cams.
5) Tailpipe resonators eliminate drone.

You'll love TTi's, I had a complete system custom bent in 304 stainless steel by TTi. My system still looks new today after 10 years.

My Ultraflo's have zero drone...Maybe #4 is the reason?

TTI exhaust system arrived! I also got the Dynomax Ultra Flow 17513 mufflers. I didn't know they would have the brackets on the tailpipes. My old system does not have these and just has brackets on the tips themselves. On the passenger side however is what looks like remnants of a hanger. Should I used these? I was going to reuse my original tips but after looking at them today will be replacing them.

I guess I should get the TTI tips then. Are they pretty close in design to the stock ones? Looks like it from your picture. And those hangers are OEM? I will need a pair of those and get rid of that rust stuff I have!
Thanks TT!

yes the tip hangers are stock type from TTi they came in the kit ,when ordering  at the time had to speck it for  either turn downs  or tips !
the  TTI tips  look kind of  like the originals  obviously   for the  3 inch  system , they will be  larger ,  & to the  untrained eye  would not notice the differance to stock  unless  the two were side by side . the thing that does anoy me ( not sure it thats the right word ) but its not right & sticks out to me , is the Tips are lower than stock , not got  stock set up to show , lost all info pictures on computer again  :RantExplode: , seems  as if they are lower maybe by  three quarters of an inch,  ( anyone got a  OEM tips & system to mesure )  only way to adjust this should you  want to is cut  modify the welded on tail pipe  bracket  , then IMO if your running a 3 inch system could be clearance issuse  else where , the mufflers are really close to the floor any way with a 3" . maybe its just i'm nuts  :idiot:  :yesnod:  not liking  how low the tips are , but ... did think taking the tail pipes to a exhaust shop & have the slight bend put in them so the tips would be higher up once welded on bracket is shortened with out affecting the rest of the exhaust clearance   i'm nuts i know    :image_294343:  :yesnod: :P hope all this kind of makes sence , think ive made it sound more confusing than it would to show with a picture    :slap:
also will have to cut !  shorten  the tail pipes  when fitting  the tips , unless  they are not as long  today as they was back then :scratchchin:
the tips are or was  really good quality stainless steel

Thanks TT. I have the 2.5" system. I'll install it and see how close the pipes are to the valance before I buy tips.

Dangit I forgot this was a 318 car so I need to order the driver side bracket that goes behind the rear seat. Oh well.
The kit came with hp manifold to headpipe gaskets but I have others with metal ring and I think those would be better. I actually have 4 of them. Should I use these? Double up or just use one?

Hmmm I think I heard about these. I'll use whatever works best. Do you use just one per side? Install dry?
