I have a '68 power steering Charger. When I'm diving around the steering wheel feels notchy. Like there is a hang up while turning. BUT, if I take it in a parking lot,and do figure eights at 15 mph, it feels like all Chrysler's feel, with no hang up. If I jack up the front end there is no hang up lock to lock.It has new suspension throughout. I know it sounds crazy, but I figured I'd ask here before buying a new box, again. There is a new box (Lares) in it. Thanks for any comments..,

Is it jumpy as you are turning the steering wheel ?
Or can you feel it is jumpy while moving through a corner ?
Could it be the rear axel locking up trying to make both back wheels turn the same amount while going around a circle ?

Not jumpy. More like a hang up in the steering wheel as you roll through a turn, even a mild one. Not all the time. We replaced the front suspension and box at the same time. It's weird that doing figure 8's at 15mph and it feels fine.. Raise the front end with the car running at it goes lock to lock freely. I'm going to replace the box, again, and hope it clears this up. I bought the box in the fall and didn't replace it until the spring, and the manufacturer wants nothing to do with my complaints. Just thought maybe someone has dealt with something like this, although I didn't expect it.

Did you take the zirc fitting out of the passenger side tie rod end? The zirc will hit the torsion bar and exhibit those symptoms. Not sure if it's the inner or outer. Probably the inner.

My 69 was doing something weird when turning at one time
It ended up being where the lower control arm goes into the K frame
The flat spot in the K frame that the bolt goes through had riped out of the K frame and when turning it would jump around some as it was no longer tight

Check the lower suspension to be sure your bolts are still tight

You said you changed the front suspesion
Was it new original stuff or tubular type stuff ?

If you still have factory style lower control arms have the bushings been replaced with new ones in the lower arms ?

Pump pressure makes a difference. The TRW and Federal pumps are inferior to the Saginaw units. The Saginaws have a valve that can be shimmed to lower pressure for those that like to have a higher steering effort. One drawback is that when you take it too far, the steering gets "notchy" where as you try to turn, the feel alternates between loose, hard, loose, hard all within a few degrees of turning.
Rebuilt Saginaws usually default to having NO shims to result in the highest boost pressure. Just like rebuilt alternators often have the smallest pulley to maximize the charging rate.
You may benefit from a different pump or removing any and all shims from your Saginaw if that is what you have. I don't know much about the TRW and Federal pumps except that they are harder to modify and came from the era when tires were 5" wide and high amounts of boost wasn't needed to steer them.
