Who's goin', where you stayin' and when you gettin' there?

I haven't firmed up my itinerary yet.

I missed it last year due to work. Previous year I just did a Saturday day trip.

This year I'm thinking about going in Friday with some buddies that will be racing and staying until Sunday. I'll be entering as a non-judged show car.

Should we arrange a DodgeCharger.com get-together?

How 'bout a sticky Troy, so we don't end up with ten threads. :icon_smile_approve:
"I can fix it... my old man is a television repairman... he's got the ultimate set of tools... I can fix it."

Troy

Sure. I may just be there but someone else can arrange the meetings. No one showed up at the Nats except Telvis so the group pic is really small...

Troy

I plan to get there Friday afternoon. I'm towing the 73 cuda so that I can get into the infield without the two mile walk. I'll leave the car there overnight and drive the truck to the Motel. I hate to leave a car in a Motel parking lot overnight. The plan at this point is to stay until Sunday. I haven't gotten a Motel room yet, but it's usually not that hard to get one this late.
Just let me know a time and place to meet.

Just too much ground to cover at Nationals, and too little time to get it done. Didn't get to socialize much.

MMW tends to be a little less hectic... for me at least.

I'll be there on Thursday (to set up the Winged Warriors/NBOA spaces), and both Saturday and Sunday.  My friend that usually takes care of the Wing Cars at MMW just had surgery last week, so I'll be pinch-hitting for him that entire weekend.

Recharger

Just over the border from St. Louis in Illinois, at Gateway International Raceway.  Here's a link:

http://www.monstermopar.com/

I'll be there this year, probably late Friday through Saturday.  Charger's not done, though, so I'll just be wandering around the whole time.  Are you guys with vendor booths going to have any identification so we know who we're haggling with?  :icon_smile_wink:

I'll be there again in the swap meet area.  Lots of 71 - 74 Charger Parts and 68 - 70 Charger Parts.

where do you park for the car show, and where is parking for truck and trailer. just trying to figure out how far i will have to walk.also what day is the judging and awards? is it more of a sat and sunday show?reason i ask is never been there and how many nights for motel. is this a pretty good show? thanks

41husk

parking is a little different each year, but if you are in the show drags or swap you will have a designated parking area that is closer than general admission parking.  There is also a shuttle tram that takes you near the different venues.  Many people brieng mopeds, scooters or golf carts.  It is a real good show.  I was a little disapointed in the swap meet last year I think it has been going down hill, it was completly rapped up by 1pm Sunday.  I don't know about the car show or drags.  as far as hotels there are plenty,  You can also look in Granite City they have several hotels along Hwy 111 and chain of rocks road may be a little cheaper than Collinsville and the same distance. (about 5-10 minutes from the track.

Just to let you know, the Car Show judging is on Saturday only, and the awards are given out on Sunday afternoon.  Things do start to wind down fairly quickly on Sunday afternoon, and the place is about empty 15 minutes after the awards are done.

The show is open on Friday as well, but there are not nearly as many cars there on Friday.  Saturday is definitely the biggest day of the three.

IMHO I think the show is one of the better ones around.  It is usually organized fairly well, there is plenty of space (when the Car Show is in the oval track infield, that is), and Gateway is a good facility to have the event at.  The car show had over 600 cars last year.  That's nowhere near as big as Carlisle or the 'Nats, and perhaps thats one of the reasons I like it - you don't get overwhelmed.  I will  have to admit I was very impressed with Carlisle, but MMW is an awesome show in its own right, and should only get bigger as its reputation grows.

Another couple of reasons to go to the show:

Charlie Glotzbach, who drove the #99 Daytona and several other Mopars during his NASCAR Grand National (Nextel Cup) days will be there on Saturday and Sunday.  He'll autograph about anything you bring up, and I suspect there will be a story or two told throughout the day.

Also, I heard yesterday from Jim Campbell (he's with SS Promotions and in charge of the Car Show) that there are about 50 pre-registered entrys from the Winged Warriors (& National B-Body Owners Association).  Based on previous years, that probably means about 40 wing cars are already lined up to be there.  Undoubtedly, a few more will show up.  This could be a bumper-crop year for Daytonas, Superbirds & 500's.  I'm going to go down to Gateway on Thursday and reserve 50 spaces in a row for Wing Car parking, so hopefully we can get an awesome lineup of sloped noses and wings.  Should be a great time...

41husk

will the winged warriors take a few laps on the oval again this year?

Yes, at least I hear that is the case.  That's one of the reasons they can attract as many wing cars as they do.  No 5mph parade laps at Gateway (thank goodness).

Well I will be there definately on Saturday and Sunday. I know we have a vendors space lined up fro the show, which if you guys wanted an easy meeting area you can feel free to meet there. I don't know how much time I"ll be at the booth space, but its a 20X20 space and near the track and the food.

Make sure to stop by the space and check out the Mopar DVD's we will have for sale. We will have a display and tv set up playing our DVD's on a loop. so you guys and gals can check out our work, and see if the quality of it is up to your standards as a possible customer.

If you would like to see what all we have to offer currently look at our webpage

Hey Geno, I'll be bringing the 500 to the show. So you don't have to just save spaces for winged cars. Hopefully there will be a few more 500's at this show as well. maybe Jerry will bring his 500 like at the nationals.

Danny,
There should be plenty of room this year.  I'm going to reserve 50+ spots (more if they'll let me), although we are going to try and keep the wing cars together.  Depending on how cooperative people are that may or may not work - but we're going to make an effort to get one of those "magazine photo shots" with all of the sloped noses and wings lined up.  We'll have space for the 500's and other NBOA members' cars, but they'll be off to the sides (as will my R/T, so I'm a second-class citizen too...   :P )

BTW, I'm still waiting on that commission check from the 'Nats...    :icon_smile_big:

69_500

As it stands now, my commision for the DVD sales at the Nationals was $6. So if you really want $6 too for letting us use your truck as an advertisement I'd be more than willing to get that to ya

Ouch,

Hope things go better for you guys at MMW, in a whole lot of ways.

And I hope you knew I was j/k...

69_500

We are hoping things go better there too. So far it hasn't been what we were hoping or expecting. however it has been great fun, and an awsome experience.
Hard to make much profit at the nats, when we couldn't tape anything, nor could we get any information for a booth or a swap meet space.

It looks like I will be there on Saturday. I'm taking my car to CudaKen that weekend so he can paint it. Whoooohoooo!!! Hopefully it will be a bit cooler than it was in Columbus. Maybe we can get a group photo that includes a few more of us than just me and troy. :icon_smile_big:

I was out at Gateway for about 4 hours yesterday, getting set up for the Winged Cars.  They have what I think will be a much better system to get everyone into the show a little easier.  3 lanes of traffic at the registration tent, all going the same way.  They also moved the registration tent farther away from the tunnel entrance, to allow more cars to queue up.  Once you get through registration (and the brief inspection they do if you're in a stock judged class), they are sending the judged cars through the grass to the back loop of the road course.  They may even let non-judged show cars that are pre-registered (read: ALREADY PAID) go park, and then come to the registration tent - a lot of discussion was going on about that.  Hopefully they will get everyone in quickly and smoothly.  It's a major ordeal to get that many cars into the show area, and Jim Campbell & his crew try very hard to keep everyone happy.

Hope to see everyone out there!

I'm off to go chat with Charlie Glotzbach now...   :boogie:
