Do-it-yourself Daytona rear window trim

I've just completed my Do-it-yourself Daytona rear window trim.

The first picture is of the assembled trim.

The second picture shows the exploded view so you can see where I pieced in the side "legs" onto the now shortened stock charger upper moldings.

The third picture shows the "joiners" I made from small pieces of the trim cut down to slip into the trim sections to join them together-if you had that orange plastic Hotwheels track when you were a kid then you know where I got the idea.

The fourth picture shows the "Donor" trim- 68-70 Satellite/Road Runner B-body 2-door upper rear window trim.  This trim has the same profile as the Charger trim and has some long, straight sections that I cut out to make the "extensions".

I bought this "Donor" trim at a swap meet for $20.

The rest of the project is just a cut and fit deal. I used a cut-off wheel in my grinder to cut the trim, and then cleaned up the rough cuts with an 80 grit disc on the grinder. Deburr with a sharp knife and some 600 sandpaper, slip it all together and you're done-with no stainless welding.

The lower "straight"section of the trim is stock charger with the "Bow" taken out of it and the corners have been switched side-to-side and turned 90 degrees to make up for the wider Daytona/C500 window opening...

Nice job and congrats for doing the trim without spending big bucks.I think what was used on a old clone daytona of mine was 2 sets of regular charger back window moulding .On a real superbird that was missing a upper piece of trim .I used one from a satelitte or 70 coronet and cut it down filed where it would join. And it worked out

Thanks, guys. I'm very pleased with the way it came out. I was trying to avoid that "I'll just fill in that last 3 inches or so with this little piece" look.  So I cut the Charger upper trim off higher up and made the filler piece much longer. I think it looks smoother and more "Finished"

The picture below is the trim of a clone that was in several magazines...This is the pieced together and screwed on look I was DESPERATELY trying to avoid !!!

MATT,

Please post the contact info from the company you ordered the plug from.

Please post pictures of the car that you OWN that you plan to install this plug onto.

No, the glue and sheet metal screw "fix" is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. My home-made trim fits good and will engage into the factory style clips as it should ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Anyone know of a way to make a set for a superbird? If I could get a set of back glass moldings, I would spring for that steel plug and repro glass for my bird clone.

Don Currie told me that he sold his superbird clone and seems like he told me that he sold his superbird molds as well. He made my steel wing and my steel hood extension. He also sold me a f/g nose, fender extensions, wing washers and fender scoops. I'm pleased with the work that he did and hope that he continues building superbird parts. I looked at his website a few days ago and it looks like he removed the info regarding the superbird stuff. Would love to have bought that mold for the nose.
