The most telling thing from that earlier DC.com thread is the link to the previous eBay auction.  $110K and reserve not met...  Ouch...

This time, the listing says the reserve is "reasonable".

:scratchchin:

69_500

Reserve is reasonable. I think he wants $150K for the car. If a project 4 speed HEMI 500 went for $120,000 why wouldn't this one bring $150? Sure its not numbers matching, but it is a very low mileage car, and it is real Daytona parts on the car.

hemigeno

Well, I guess I'm looking at that car pretty much still as a project car.  It's certainly not in the "restored" category.  You're right, it is a Hemi C500, and that is definitely worth something.  The Daytona parts definitely add value too, although it would cost some serious moolah to put the car back together as a C500 and to get the nosecone/valance back to their stock configuration (since the nose was leaded in) for resale.  The future owner could always leave it as it is, but that leaves this car in a gray area where it is neither a Daytona or a C500.

I guess I'm just going partly by the sale price of Dave Schultz's C500 with Daytona parts, and its value didn't get anywhere close to $100k even with its Daytona parts adding value.  IIRC, everyone was pretty shocked when the 4-speed C500 sold for what it did, although I'm not qualified to say what it SHOULD have sold for.  Heck, it sold, so that's what its value is/was.  Did that 4-speed car's sale price establish the new floor price of hemi C500's, or was that just a byproduct of two people getting into a B-J style bidding war?  I honestly don't know.

69_500

As far as the project 4 speed 500 that just recently sold, I"ll say it is a byproduct of the latter. A bidding war between two people who had more money than they really knew what to do with. Just my opinion.

If I was to drop $150K on a HEMI 500 and it needed work, it would definately be this one over the other car. For one we all know I want a Daytona more than a 500. So this one would really be a best of two worlds. Its a Daytona, but not a Daytona. Its a HEMI, but its not numbers matching. Therefore, drive it, drive the heck out of it actually, and just enjoy it for what it is.
