Anyone into Def Leppard?

Saw them tonight for the first time since '93...they still got it!  I was disappointed that they only played an hour and forty five minutes with no opener, but it was high energy the whole time.  All old stuff, a couple covers, even had the sound effects with Gods of War.  I'd have liked to hear some of their newer stuff too, but that's ok, it was a great show.  One of the things Joe Elliott said at the end was "Don't forget us and we won't forget you!"   Not sure what he meant by that.    ???

My wife likes them. I can't say I was ever a huge fan.

JimShine

Very cool! Not a huge fan, but i have them twice and met them once. The first time was in 1988. My best memory was of Steve. Then I saw them in 1992.

Did they play anything made before Pyromania? I remember a few years ago they spoke in an interview how they didn't play any "On through the nigh"t or "High and Dry" songs because neither of the guitar players were involved in those songs and they didn't feel it was right to force them to play that stuff. That turned me off as that is my favorite era of Def Leppard.

Why does liking Def Leppard put me in the same category as that retard?    ::)  And no, nothing from HD or OTN.  Mainly Hysteria.

I put their tape in the same box as my mullet and stone washed jeans (with a zillion holes) .... Then I burned it  :flame:

This ticket is only $69.00 ?  If I'd have known that I'd have been going FASTER !

Def Leppard is my favorite band. Unfortunely I have never seen them in concert in person. But as far as what he said at the end, Joe has always said that as long as no one forgets the band, they will be around to perform. I just hope their next album is harder then the last one "X". I think the ballads are only ok. I prefer the harder rock songs. "X" only had 3 hard songs that I really liked a lot.

Yeah, X was good, but definitely a step away from the Fab 4 (Pyro, Hyst, Aden, Euph).  They're putting out a cover CD and more greatest hits...and what the hell is the point of that?

Never bought anything past, "Hysteria", but they were the first concert I got to see (1987).

Rick's one-armed drum solo was pretty cool. :punkrocka:

Plus, there was way more chicks at that concert then when I went to see Metallica the next year. :2thumbs:

Sorry guys, "On through the Night" and "High and Dry" are a whole different world than the later, commercial stuff they did. I can see the remarks about Pyromania and after (I like that stuff too, but nothing from the 90's and later), but that earlier stuff was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and was awesome.

NHCharger

Their first albums were 5 kids rocking out. they were all talented musicians and had a recording contract when they were 17/18. Once Mutt Lange started producing them their sound got to " bubblegum" for me, although I do like several songs on their Hysteria album.

Def Leppard ROCKS!!  I saw them with Ozzy and Randie Roads when they were just starting out.  At first I was like . . . WHo's Def Leppard??  Then they started playing and it all came together!  Thats who they are.  Had heard the songs but didn't know the name!  That was a long time ago in the 80's at Pine Knob in Michigan!   Saw alot of great concerts there!
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

I like older Def Leopard songs.  Saw the Pyromania tour in, jeez, eighth grade?  Wore that Pyromania concert shirt until it fell off me in shreds.  Plus, later on, the poor drummer losing his arm, and they kept on playing, gotta give 'em credit for that.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

I saw Def Leppard in Sacramento about 5 Years ago I think. They had an opening band called "Tripping Daisy" that sucked ass. the crowd began booing them off of the stage and the lead singer started accusing the audience that the reason we didn't like them was because they were all gay. And we knew they were gay how??? Anyways they kind of spoiled the hole mood. My wife and I stayed for about another hour. Def Leppard sounded ok but not for me to go back and see them again.

Rush
Scorpions
Ozzy
and of course a little smoke to get it all rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw them at Jones Beach last summer.  It's over, guy.  Joe Elliot cannot sing anymore.  I love the albums, but it's time to walk away.

Funny how the stuff they recorded after they got popular is considered "commercial" and everything they recorded before was the genuine material. Ever consider that maybe they just sucked for the first two albums and eventually pulled their heads out?

General_01

Went and saw them last night. Joe's voice was tired. He couldn't hit the high notes. Bryan Adams was good. His voice was in fine form and the band rocked.

Sorry if I missed you PT. I have been busy the whole week and never checked this thread out until today. Hope I see you tomorrow. Take care.

HAHAHA!! :smilielol:

Def Leppard was the scheit when I was in high school, around 80-81. I never did get to see a concert though. :-\
I haven't heard their newer stuff. Once the sound changed, that was it for me.

I tend to like the earlier stuff from most bands...when they were running on authentic talent & not commercial prodding.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I saw them Down here in New Orleans last Sunday night.  They rocked.  I haven't seen them since 93 either.  They had an opening band.  It was a local band out of New Orleans.  They were pretty good but probably should have opened for somebody like Marilyn Manson or something.  To heave to be opening for DL.

I liked their early stuff when they had a rawer sound,  before their songwriting skills peeked. I really don't keep up with them but do they still have Vivian Campbell in the band? I remember about ten year's ago or so they picked him up after Clarke passed away. I think it was about three year's or so after Clarke passed they picked up Vivian. Am I right or wrong about this? I do remeber that Vivian was a hell of a guitar player with Dio.

Sorry if I keep on repeating my self with the word remember I don't know what the heck is wrong with me!

Wakko

Yeah Vivian is still there.  THey've definitely slowed down their newer music, but it's still good...just not as good as their older harder stuff, IMO.
