Dick Landy's Chargers 1968 and 1969

I've been putting together a collection of pictures re: the various Chargers that were owned and operated by the late great Dick Landy.
Obviously, we are all very much aware of the disposition of the 1970-version, courtesy of this website!

But I'd really like to know what became of his various '68 and '69 cars, of which I'm certain there were more than a few.

In examining the pictures of these cars, I've notice quite a variety of hoodscoops, decals, and changes in paint schemes, not to mention the addition or removal of R/T emblems.
Heck, in one picture, one of his '69's has 500/Daytona 'A' pillar sheilds!

I'd like to put together a definitive timeline on these cars, and I'd appreciate anybody with Dick Landy Charger pictures to post them on this thread.
The higher the resolution (up to 200kbs) the better!

The different classes had different specs and Dick used some slant 6 and 318 cars as basis for some of his racers. Saved him the trouble of swapping in the slant 6 torsion bars and small rad...etc.

Here's some I have

Any that I don't have I am interested in working out rental deals.

Mike,
How did I know you'd be the first guy to respond to this thread!!

OK. Here is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
These two 1969 Chargers are obviously not the same car...

Dick had a slew of different cars for each of the years. I have a suspension how-to book by him from many moons ago. I forget how many cars he ran for each of the years, but he had a car for each of the classes. And Ma was heavy into fresh air induction then and different scoops were being tested all the time. Look at the later Don Carlton and others. Almost a scoop a day. Hummmm got the hankering for ice cream. :smilielol:
Not wanting to trust the old grey matter, but I think there may have been 4-6 Chargers at any time running. I remember him saying about whatever class he was running the 440 cars in at the time was much more restrictive than one of the open hemi car classes. That '68 car began life as a slant 6 car with the old hemi drop in.

This one I believe....

Magnumcharger

These three 1968's are different too, mostly in the hood-scoop department.
I hear what you're saying, different classes, different cars.
So, how many cars overall?
Anybody have the specifications for each of them?

The cars would change as the season goes on,but more than 1 car for sure.I`ll bet a couple lookalikes for the perf clinics.Another thing to look for is on his `69 in the champion ad,that car has `68 doors on it.The door lock button is at the back of the door.

pettyfan43

LOTS of the drag car guys, Landy and Sox & Martin updated their cars from season to season, ESPECIALLY if they had a car they really liked. Could be that the 69 with 68 doors, is actually a 68 with a 69 nose and tail. Ronnie Sox's 69 Road Runner is actually the 68 car with a new grille taillights and trunklid.

Teams were also prone to having similar cars with Hemis and 440s and even similar cars with similar power plants. Some cars would be changed for different classes, The Sox and Martin Superbird ran with an injected 440, and injected Hemi, a carbed Hemi and with and without scoops  And there were a couple different scoops.

Just a little food for thought.

UFO

You are right about cars being updated. I know one of his 68 darts was modified to 69 appearance.

Magnumcharger

I'm thinking the Charger with the chrome A pillars is actually the '68 car with a make-over.
Look at the difference between the '68 and '69 door stripes...then look at that '69 again.

And then, just to confuse the issue, maybe he started each year with fresh bodies?

terrible one

The one in the field looks like a clone car. Notice the different/not as good painting of the "Dodge" and "Charger" logos on the rear quarter. Also, the silver part between the red doesn't go as far back as on either of the pictured cars.

I was digging through some old mags and found this for Dick's 1969 cars list. This is early 1969. Another article he says he modified one of the Superstock cars to run B/MP and gutted the interior, added a fibreglass hood with scoop.......

Here he's running 8 at this time.

And Robin, do you have an actual photo of that shot of the '69 by the fence? :icon_smile_big:

Do you mean THIS one?
Note that Dick has a broken foot...likely from pushing the gas pedal through the floor!!

Here's another cool picture of the 1968 version of the Dick Landy Charger.
This one is definately the Hemified edition.

Okay that is now three you have that I need. What dpi are these scanned at? If they are 8x10 originals - 600 dpi is just great.
Or if they are originals, mail them to me and I'll send you back a care package with the originals intact.

Sadly, I don't have any pics. I'd definitely post 'em up if I did. :yesnod:
Your collection is pretty darn sweet, though!

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
