What does it mean to have the rods shot peened? :shruggy:

Bull,  Shot peening is to strengthen the metal to prevent cracking.  A hardening of the outer metal to say.  The process consists of shooting a pre determined size and weight ball at a specific air pressure onto the metal surface.  Kinda like bead blasting.  Other factors come into pay like the dwell time you are shooting each area... distance from the part... type of material you are hardening. We do it all the time with aircraft parts.

It's funny how some things slip past us. My wife works for a 70+ year old lady who just tried artichoke last week. I frequently talk with coworkers that have been here 30+ years and have never done the same type of job I've already done 10 times in the past five years. And we work in the same building doing the same tasks.
