Why can I not upload my own picture for my avatar?

I've clicked on all the right buttons, etc in the profile area, and for some reason I just can't upload a picture.  I have no problem at all on the First gen website, and that site uses essentially the same program this one does.  Most of the features are the same.    What gives?

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Probably too large. The size limit is set at 200x400 pixels and file size limit is 200kb. The forum software unceremoniously deletes anything out of range with no warning message. Here's a few other threads that may be helpful:
