I can't figure out what lights to use for the front corner marker lights for my clone. Any suggestions? I have been thru every lighting catalog I can find and I am striking out. The opening is approx. 1 1/4 " x 4 1/4 ". Thanks in advance...Rick

I'm in the process of converting the stock Charger side reflector to LED . At some point I'm going to marksting a kit for this . They will look 100 % orig but they will have a simple two wire hook-up .

Good to know....keep us posted.  Thanks, Rick

The Daytona is as big as a cruise ship , I know that in 69 is was not DOT mandated , but with a car as long as a football Field we need something .

I know on my friends old daytona he had 70 ish Vega light. Is there anyway you cut a hole in white backside of original lens. Then add a piece of tubing and bulb socket.Or LED

That is exactly the reason I used the original reflector that came with the car and converted it to illuminate via LED . I think all of us would rather use the correct looking and proper fitting reflector that orig came with car rather than use a Vega or Lincoln or Caddy side marker

pettybird

How about '70 roadrunner markers?  They're about the same size and have body color bezels?

hotrod98

How about 69 Charger side markers?  :shruggy:

All the above , I'm working on a kit to convert them to LED , I have a few things to work out . Why not use a Vega light ?

daytonalo

I had a 70 Coronet R/T and they had a side marker lights . Wouldn't the 70 Roadrunner have the same lights ??

I was under impression that DOT mandated all cars have side marker lights in 70

Larry

Ghoste

I'm likely misunderstanding the question Larry, but Coronet and Superbird use the same marker lights, the Road Runner ones are different and yes the DOT did mandate them.

daytonalo

OK , this is getting nuts . On the 70 Road Runner are they marker lights or just reflectors ??

learical1

Superbirds, 70 Coronets and 70 Roadrunners have lights.  Since the 'bird uses coronet fenders, their front lamps are the same as a coronet, but the rear lamps are the same as a roadrunner/belvedere
Bruce

daytonalo

OK , lets get something clear , the 69 Charger DOES NOT have side marker lights , and I will convert any side reflector to LED , which means they will light up . Any questions ???

I think I am a little confused too!  '69 Chargers had reflectors, but Daytonas had lights?  '69 Charger reflectors fit the openings for Daytonas?

nascarxx29

Rick all 69 chargers had reflectors.Daytonas included. It made the daytona most vulernable In traffic situations in my opinion..The ones that did light as I recall was for 68-70 and later. The daytona only had reflectors at the lower fender valance as 69 charger fenders did .Though a daytonas used a 70 charger fenders the openings are not cut out and used. And have reflectors on the side of the valance. They do however have 69 valiant park turn signal lights in the front grille opening. That remained lighted on while in full headlight switch position. The 68 lights didnt remain on.I know from experience when someone I know with a green daytona had a 68 charger wiring harness. And I rewired the car using the supplied harness

Daytonas only have plastic reflectors in the valance panel.    Different than the ones in the standard Charger fender.

I used the stock 69 side reflectors in the front. I opened up a hole in the back, installed a socket and bulb from a later "A" body, and tied them into the front park lights. I still used the '70 Charger rear markers that lit up, now all 4 corners light up when lights are on.

I can try and get a picture of what I did if anyone is intrerested.

On my old friends reto daytona when they used the Vega lights on the side of vance there was no bezel. And there was 2 screws going through the reflector. That was doneback in the day when they molded nose cones in .Today you got more options

Retro 70 car retro 70 rims .They were not chrome reverse .They were a deep chrome wheel that had a attachable appearing like wire basket spoke insert.Im glad he choose not to use them  :yesnod:.And go with at the time the accepted chrome reverse look.

Could you imagine how it would have looked like if these were complete

So adding LED marker lights and eliminating the reverse lights are good modifications but chrome rims are bad?  :nana: :stirthepot:

daytonalo

Must be a southern thing with chrome rims !!! Led converted side reflectors look stock and deleting back-up lights , 9 out of 10 people wont notice !!! I just prefer not getting Car-jacked because of my rims , please feel free to pimp your own ride !! :icon_smile_big: Can I call you Ghoste Daddy ???

You can and you should,  cupcake.   :D   :apimp:

Below are pics of lighted front side marker reflectors on our car.....last picture is rear shot. Used an early '70's "A" body side marker light, cut the part off that the bulb sits in, opened a small hole in rear of '69 reflector and epoxyed the cut off portion to the '69 reflector. Uses standard 194 bulb, lights up very well.

1st picture, lights off, 2nd picture, lights on, last picture, rear of modified assembly.

That nice !!! My kit will only require a very small hole and then insert led , no shopping for a-body lights and then epoxying in place . I have been so busy lately .

Larry

A383Wing

Hey Cupcake....I did mine long before LED's were popular....I had all the parts, figured I would put them to use.....  :scratchchin:

Bryan

daytonalo

I love the lights Sunshine , they work fine I'm sure !!  I just thought a simple kit would sell .

Larry

A383Wing

It probably would sell Cupcake...go for it...I know a lot of people in the past have said they wished the reflectors lit up at night with the lights on...

Bryan

69_500

I think that the LED marker for 69 Chargers might sell. However I will say that the amount of people looking to do that would be a small portion of the people who are working on these cars. Just my  :Twocents:, but unless your doing some custom work on the rest of the car I wouldn't go for the LED lights. I like my cars stock, and so I'd pass on them.

daytonalo

I think you are missing the point , they will look 100 % stock , meaning they look like when the car was born , but light up at night with a simple two wire hook-up . They will work on any non-illuminating side reflector !!.

Looks good Bryan. That's almost exactly what I have in mind for my car  :2thumbs:

Looks like you both have a similar workable lighted daytona marker unit .Next wingcar issue that needs a remedy. Is for the superbird. The beep beep horn is user activated by 2 quick s horn pushs wether it be from a rim blow or convential steering wheel. What would be better is when you tap the horn once. And timed electric relay.Would activate the 2 beep beep tone required on que every time at the same interval. hey  Bryan, that looks good. it seems like you where a head of the times with your car . i also like that electric vacuum switch you came up with.

Hey Cuppy , i might take a pair of those led lights. depends on the price. Rene

A383Wing

Rene, thanks....I figured I had to try and make the front one light up because I am still running the '70 rear side marker light/reflector in both rears. Just wouldn't look right with just the rear on working.

The "electric" vacuum switch was another idea I had.....with the OE style headlight switches so hard to find, I figured something was out there to take the place of the vacuum portion of the "OE" switches. It will work on all 68-69 Chargers and '70 'Birds.

Someone beat you to it--they call it a beep timer or something.  I saw it at the nats and laughed.

Seriously--that's the best part of hitting the horn.  it also prevents you from being "angry" with it, eh?  Someone cuts you off, has a lit bomb in the trunk, headed for a busload of nuns...  meep meep!
