I was at a swap meet this morning and saw a set of 67 closed chamber heads and a set of 906 heads...............what would you pay, I might go back and pic them up ???

RT/SE

Were they bare castings or were they complete and ready to bolt on?

az69rtcharger

they are complete but could probably use a valve job.

Silver R/T

I wouldnt buy them but its just me, saving up for eddie's, by the time cast iron ones get ported/rebuilt with all the machining costs I can get eddies and still better head and flows more UNPORTED compared to 906's

yes, stock for stock the eddy's outflow 906's but give them a port job  and you'll still have twice the cash into the eddys to make them flow better.

I'll stick with iron heads. they're time proven.

im not sure what they're going for nowadays though. sorry

The 67 closed chamber heads would be 915s(?) which are quite a bit more expensive than 906s. I guess maybe they could be 516s but I get them confused sometimes. There have been several threads about what is better and all that but that's another discussion. With that said, I think 906s can be had for maybe $50-75 and the 915s are usually above $200.

I removed a set of 906's off a car at a salvage yard last year for $70.

Thanks for the info, I went back to the swapmeet and picked up a set of 906s for $40.00 and the 516 heads for FOR $50 he gave me 3 516s but one was cracked. I thought that was a good deal in my opinion.

915's are a great choice to bump the CR up a point.  Just make sure you install the larger exh valve if they are not factory HP heads

Hmmmm, I had the opportunity to grab a set of 915s earlier this year and passed on them. It sounds like they were cheap. Whoops! Max has some for sale in the classifieds if anyone wants them.

Don't the closed chamber heads provide better quench too?

I have a set of the 516's already and have dibs on some 915's along with a bunch of other stuff.

Ok.   Brain cramp time!   I scored a set of 915's (my lucky streak for the year!) and know they are 67 only (and HP).   But what are the 516's again???   ???

Thanks!

The 516's are the more common closed chamber heads used on 361's and 383's before the 906's. They have smaller valves from the factory.

Thanks!   I probably could have looked it up, but was being lazy and figured someone else might be wondering also.   :icon_smile_cool:

I would have bought them already. Could luck out and get a set of 915s. 915s were not just for the HP, and there was a difference in valve sizes.
