Happy anniversary to this thread!
An April Fool's day joke, submitted 8 years ago...and has gone on, thanks to the members of this community, to become a quasi-truth among the worldwide Mopar community! :yesnod:
When making this Photo-shop, I never imagined myself being taken to task over it, especially by members of the Landy family!
And I'm even more surprised when I keep seeing it popping up on other websites, where it's being touted as the real thing... :o
It almost got a mention in this book!

Well, it just goes to show that some actions definitely have the opposite, and not equal reactions!  :scratchchin:

Quote from: Magnumcharger on April 01, 2008, 12:14:43 AM"In 1969, Dick Landy conducted numerous Chrysler Corporation-sponsored "Supercar" clinics throughout the nation. In addition to running several different cars in Super Stock, Landy also operated a Dodge Charger in B/MP, which was to become the NHRA Winternationals Street eliminator winner in that year.

On route to that victory, there was an interesting side note.

In August of 1969, Landy was tasked by Chrysler racing representative Bob Rodgers, to prepare and drag race a new Dodge "Daytona" Charger, a vehicle synonymous with stockcar racing.

In the B/MP class, the Daytona was trialed and found to be the ideal candidate, as the improved aerodynamics of the car dramatically decreased the quarter mile elapsed time, (which bettered the times of all the other cars in the Landy stables by more than a half second).
The result being, this new racecar handily defeated every opponent facing Landy in that class, placing him in the lead for points and within easy reach of the championship.

The downfall of the Landy Daytona was not the result of an accident, but the overwhelming protests of his opponents.

A petition was put forth to the governing body of NHRA on behalf of these racers, and a ruling was made; effectively sanctioning the Daytona out of competition based on the limited numbers produced.

NHRA representative Wally Parks was on record (Oct 1969 National Dragster magazine) as saying: "People pay to come to our Drag strips to see racing, not the kind of unfair advantage given by a car manufacturer to one racer with a specialty vehicle."

Ironically, less than a year later, there would be several other "winged" racecars in the fray; the two Plymouth Superbirds campaigned by the team of Sox and Martin (C/MP and SS/F) being the most notable."

History of Landy's Daytona

Just thought I'd update this to mention that I'm now drawing the fleet of Landy race cars, under the auspices of the Landy family! Truth is stranger than fiction.
