I've enjoyed this beautiful car for the last 8 1/2 years and as I approach the big 5-O I've decided to sell it. I just don't get the opportunity to take it out much so it's time for this car to go to a serious collector.
Only 259 1968 4-speed Chargers were made. I have heard that only 3 are registered in the Dodge Charger Registry. This is one of them.
I am the third owner of this numbers matching and documented original Charger, which I acquired in January 2000. Its second owner had the car since ’69 or ’70. He was a paint and body man by profession and did a frame up restoration in 1996, prior to his retirement. He took it on the Hot Rod power tour in ’99 but otherwise he had not shown the car. The color is a rare spring color and the car is also a highly desirable original Hurst 4-speed car.
The car was originally bought in Oregon and remained there until I brought it down to California. I still have the Oregon plates although I currently have personalized plates on the car now.
Since the car is accident free and rust free the body is straight as an arrow. Paint is color code 331 “Charger red” and has a clear coat. Pinstripes were applied over this. This car was a white hat special meaning that it had white top, interior and whitewalls, however the first owner upgraded to Cragers and it’s remained that way. I do have a complete set of 5 restored rims and 6 decent hubcaps that will go with the car as well as a complete spare rebuilt dash panel, gauges and dash bezels. I also have an extra intake manifold since I powder coated the one on the engine.
The car has been appraised and documented by Pacific Automobile Appraisers and Galen V. Govier. I have the original owner’s manual including the blue certicard in the back and the Customer Care Warranty. I also have the broadcast sheet I found in the backseat. While it now has electronic ignition, I do have the original distributor. This car was built in Hamtramck, MI. Everything is in working order with the exception of the windshield washer. I have receipts from all but the first owner. Car cover, '68 service manual, restoration books, etc.. will be included. Smoke free history.
This car “debuted” at Spring Fling 2000 in Los Angeles and has gone on to win numerous awards including best restified, first place muscle car, best B-body, and recently won 3rd in Mopar Alley’s Top Gun against 20 other first place finishing Mopars from the previous year. The car has also been sponsored for the prestigious Air Systems Foundation benefit show. Ron Kimball has photographed the car and it has been in several calendars (I will include a couple copies of 2004 Car & Driver American Muscle Car and a poster.) This Charger is “eye candy” and commands attention everywhere it goes!
Modifications include:
Headers and glass packs, air shocks on rear, master cylinder, electronic ignition, battery (I do have a reproduction battery for shows), rear speakers, chrome exhaust tips (round NOT R/T style), Cooper Cobra radial tires
Front windshield has been replaced and I still have the original one which has a small chip and the Hot Rod power tour sticker on it. Reproduction parts include new trunk mat and hood pad. You will get original set of keys plus 2 extra sets.
Stats:

I have also been contacted by a couple of people wanting to trade. I am not very interested in trading, although I may consider a part cash part trade deal.
Here are some inquiries I have had by phone:
Have the seatbelts been restored?
Yes, by Generations Auto Upholstery and they sewed the original “tags” back in.
Have the bumpers been rechromed?
Yes, by Superior Wheel & Bumper and it was a triple plate.
Is the vinyl roof original?
Yes, so are the carpet, headliner and interior with the exception of a rear panel and driver’s armrest pad.
Any modifications to the engine or transmission when it was rebuilt?
Yes, hardened seats were installed so that the car could run on premium unleaded gas. It also has an RV cam.
Again, this car is very likely the best representation of a 1968 Charger restored as an “original” restoration.
Asking $80,000
