C500

Some of you guys will remember when I bought the C500. It's the F8 green one with the hood callouts.

It's been almost 3 months since I paid for the 500, and she's finally ready for me to pick her up tomorrow. I'm taking her straight to a mate of mine with a sandblasting business and getting the underside cleaned up. She won't be home for a few days. Will post pics tomorrow. Can't wait to see her in the flesh!!

C500

I have started work on her already. Had the underside sandblasted and epoxied and the rust in the quarters also blasted. There was alot of rust and bondo in the quarters, and the trunk extension panels.  I will put some new steel in (will cut the Taiwanese repro quarters up and put new extensions). The guy I got the car from was pretty shocked there was that much bondo and rust, he's offered to pay for the new quarters and trunk extension panels. I'm really happy about that. I already have a new AMD trunk floor here for it. The main floor isn't as bad, has some pin holes, but nothing too bad.

Today I found the matching VIN number on the engine. Funny thing is, instead of XX like the dash has, the block starts XS. The rest of the characters are correct.

There was nothing stamped on the trans by the oil sending unit though. (Im guessing thats the only place to look on the trans).

Attached is a picture of her finally in my garage after 3 long months.

the transmission stamp is on the passenger side, too--it's on a raised pad about 1/3 of the way back.  you can read it without jacking up the car.

I didn't know why you'd look on top and then I saw the '68 next to it  ;)

thanks, I'm going to check the trans right now.........and its is a matching trans too :woohoo:

Is anything else on a 69 stamped with the VIN/partial VIN (except for the body stamps)

That about covers it.  Thats interesting about the block stamp, most of us have heard of the early 500's with XS in the dash but I've never heard of one with XS on the block and XX on the dash.  Danny?

Someone posted recently that my 500's production day was the first day they used XX in the VIN instead of XS. I think it's Nov 14 from memory

I believe that is what I got from Danny as well.  Very cool stable mates you have now!

Well the fender tag's started to be stamped XX on November 14th. However the Dash VIN's were always XX, including the first one in 1969.

As far as the blocks go. Many were stamped XS early on, and then somewhere in the middle they started double stamping them XX over the top of the XS that was already there. Then as you get further along the line of cars being built they were all stamped XX.

However there are a few exceptions to this rule. As there is a car that is pretty late in the production run that is XS everywhere including the dash.

Ghoste

I had always thought there were several with XS on the dash.  Thanks, I just love learning this.

69_500

I think I have pics and information on 3 cars with XS on the dash, but they are scattered throughout the production run. None of those 3 are on the same day, nor are they close to each other in VIN.

Always glad to be of service, when I can be that is. When I know the answer I'll speak up, other wise, I try to keep my mouth shut.

C500

The hood callouts and 440 on the rear stripe are staying longer than I planned. They have been painted over with clear coat. I dont want to take them off to leave some ugly marks. Finances don't permit a repaint just yet.

I have some new steel coming and will be replacing the lower quarters, trunk floor and trunk extensions before much else is done. I just love seeing her in the garage right now.

When I took the back panels off the front seats loooking for the elusive piece of paper, I soon found out it fricken reeks back there. Smells kinda musty, but nothing wet, and no sign of inhabitants. A good air-out is in store.

Im trying to work out what would look better: 15 x 8 and 15 x 10 magnums, skinny steel wheels 14 or 15 inch with dog dish caps or skinny steel wheels with the 14 inch bullitt style wheel covers. The magnums are cool, but I like the factory look and they are quite wide. I know it's personal opinion, but I'm torn between right now.

I think they are a great looking wheel and especially on the 500's.  To each their own I suppose.

69_500

I will admit that I like the W23 wheels, and they do look good. But honestly I think they look better on a Daytona, even though it wasn't even a possibility to get them once the Daytona's were available.

If you need $1,800 so bad Jay, I'll do you a favor and I'll even give you $3,800 for the Daytona, and you can get 2 sets for the 500. And that will even free up a garage space for the extra set of tires.

Jay you shouldn't play with a mans emotions like that. Especially with Christmas coming up, and boy would that look good sitting in the garage with a nice bow on it. Screw the Lexus comercials, that would be the best christmas present ever. If you decide that 49 ford needs to come inside, let me know. I have a spot in the garage just waiting on a Daytona. Already has a sign hung up at the front of the spot that says Daytona parking only. Which is why in the last 6 years that spot hasn't had a single car in it.
