Just for grins and giggles, since some of you wing car old timers seem to know all there is to know about every wing car every made  ;) (and I'm only half kidding you know), what do you know about that car?  Where the photo was taken, what happened to it after ?  Anything?

Aero426

It's from Daytona in Feb '70.  I don't know any more beyond that.

Ghoste

That's still something, there isn't much about these cars you don't know at least something about is there?

why would there be a lock?

Troy (Troy) said in the past that anything that wouldn't pass the Victoria Secrets Catalog would be locked, but i dont see anything violating that situation....?...?/??   :shruggy:

is it me, or does that 1st Daytona look like it's missing it's "Charger" script between the taillamps? Maybe it's the lighting, or the lack of it.........

And yes, I noticed the girl........  ;D

Stuart, where is the picture you posted of the Daytona from?

Just a total guess on what color the Daytona would be in the permatex picture but I'd have to say it is either an R4 red car or a V2 orange car.

But something must drive that guess, what is it?

69_500

Just basing it on what colors look like when you convert color photo's into black and white. What shade of grey they make. Just took pictures I have of R4 cars and converted them to black and white and compared. Just was thinking maybe it is the same car as the color picture that Stuart posted as well.

Ghoste

I knew there was an ulterior motive.  So you think you may know the car in both pics and that it is one and the same?

69_500

Just taking guesses. You know me I like to take some stabs in the dark occasionally.

Probably not the same car.  The other track is Michigan.

After we figure out the Permatex car and the Union 76 Girls on the red & white daytona. Then we have to figure out whos daytona Dan Gurney was on when he sat on the wing. And also whos superbird it was in Jan 70 Motor Trend front cover .And whos daytona Bob Roger sat on.And who's daytona Larry Shinoda was next to .Should keep us busy for a while :smilielol:

The 1st pic appears to be taken @ Darlington.I am judging by the proximity of the stands to the track and that they are covered. It looks like the area coming off of old turn 4 and new turn 2.JW

Not like I have a whole lot going on for oh lets say the next 25-30 years other than keeping track of these cars. So I guess being on the hunt to find out who's cars these are in the pictures isn't too bad of a thing right? I mean I already stare at pictures for hours upon end anyways.

Its not going to be easy. This one we narrowed it down to the vin .But cant find the car.It appears X9 Black

That's true, but Daytona had the Permatex 300 Late Model Sportsman race.   Old Daytona had covered stands in the tri-oval.     If you look close at the original photo, it appears the roof sections are slightly curving.    The later photo here of JD McDuffie shows the covered seats and the observer boxes on the roof.

Update, the photo posted is cropped from the original 8 x 10.    The actual Dodge press photo shows the "D" from DAYTONA USA off to the right.   So it's taken just past start/finish at Daytona.

The caption reads:

Why is the pair of stickers on the right of a Daytona, and it says trans-am? Sorry if someone already asked...
I'd rather die than go to heaven.

Ghoste

Because the Trans-Am series was very hot in 69 and 70 and the Daytona looked the part and the artist was a fool and all they wanted to do was make a cool sticker for a dollar in their pockets.
