I might be REALLY going out on a limb here... but does anyone have an idea where I could find a NASCAR (Grand National) rule book from the late 60s-early 70s?  I've looked on ebay and around the net and haven't found anything.  I would like to read up on what modifications were allowed and not allowed when building up these cars.  I have a junk 69 Charger that I plan on building into a vintage stock car replica and I would like for it to be as accurate as possible... minus the hemi (I'm not loaded)

Rule 1. Go fast.
Rule 2. Turn left.
Rule 3. Don't get caught by tech.

Or at least I think those were the only ones Smokey Yunick ever bothered with.

Dog,
Do not know where you are located, but a look at one of the cars would help a lot.  If you can get to the Talldega museum, which has the Daytona Bobby Isaac drove to the 70 champoinship, it would help you a lot.  You might also check with Highbank Hauler on this board, as I got him a pretty good set of pics and plans off of the #71 when he was looking at building a clone stock car.

Hey RTDaddy.  I am located in Jackson, MS.  I went to the Talladega Museum about two years ago and took MANY pictures.  I have a decent amount of reference photos saved on my computer.  Whenever I see a good detailed picture, I usually save it.  I'll try to get in touch with him and see if he'll send me your information.  Thanks

Bobby Isaac DID NOT drive a Daytona to the 70 Championship, This is revisionist history. He never won a single race in the 70 season with the Daytona. He won 8 driving a 70 Charger and 3 times with a 69 500.

The 70 Charger won the 70 Nascar Championship.

Ghoste

Those may be the cars he won 11 races in but which car did he score most of his points in?

Even more so than the Charger 500, the 1970 Charger is the Rodney Dangerfield of Charger race cars.

Hey Corn Dog,

I just found a 1970 Rule book through a Google search.  It's in a Nascar collection at the University of North Carolina.  I e-mailed them and for $9.00 they will copy and mail it to me.  I'll scan it and post it when I get it if you want.

If you want to browse through what else they have, here's the link....

(this is the HTML version of their .pdf file, I hope it works for you.  If not give me a holler and I'll send you it another way)

Phil,

If I may ask, I'd love to it posted once you get it and would love to add it to the 70 Charger Registry website for all to see.

Well Gang,  here it is.  I've never looked at one before so I found it pretty interesting.Lots of room for interpretation that I can see (I can't imagine what a new rule book looks like!).

It was evidently a pamphlet  because they copied 2 pages per 8x10 sheet of paper.  They sent along the Sportsman Rule book as a bonus.

This is 50 pages long (Sportsman book is another 10 pages) and would take forever to post it up with jpeg's. I copied it into the .pdf format so you'll need an Adobe Reader to view it. Unfortunately I can't post up a .pdf file here so if you PM me with an e-mail address I'll be happy to send it to you.

If we need to go another route contact me and we'll figure something out.

Man, I'm surprised anyone has a specific year rulebook for NASCAR in that era.  That's a real find.

There was so much "It's illegal because I just said so!" with NASCAR inspectors in those days.

CornDogsCharger

The rulebook is still pretty vauge on soooo many things.  Now I understand why people were allowed to get away with so much.  The doesn't actually say you can not do this... or that.  Still very interesting.

Isn't it so!  Man, now I know why Smokey Yunick says they wrote a rule book just for him!
