Superbird Tech Questions Headlght springs PLYMOUTH decals

I have some Tech questions for the Xperts here on Dodge Charger. I am finally going to start putting my Bird back together and I need some help with a couple of things. I am missing the headlight springs to lift the buckets. Are these springs used on other mopars?

Also I had a question on the Plymouth decal on the quarters of the car. My car is EK2 in color and I have a picture Doug had of the car back in 1985. The picture shows the car with what looks to be white plymouth decals on it.

I thought the EK2 cars had black plymouth decals and the EV2 cars had white decals.

I have seen black decals fade so bad the look white or if a flash was used it may have reflected and looks white.

I don't have the broadcast sheet if that would tell you or not.

Any help would be great!  :coolgleamA:

hi

i know showcars makes them and i think dayclona makes them. i don't know how accurate they are to the originals . Rene
I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

I'm still under the impression that there was no hard and fast rules when it came to the colors of the lettering on the rear's of the Superbirds. I know that for the FJ5 birds it was suggested to have black decals, but there is a batch of them that are all sequential that have white lettering. Same thing could hold true with the EK2 cars as well. It might have purely been a suggestion to put on black decals but some probably received white lettering as well.

I wonder if my bird is in the same Vin order (Assembly Date) as the FJ5 Cars. Vin # RM2EUOA178644. That could explain why it's white. Maybe they ran out of black for a couple of days.

I don't know who Bryan J  is. When did he own it? I don't think that's who I got it from. I got it 85 or 86. I would have to look at what paperwork I have with it. Any vintage pictures? I got the car out of New York.

Car's not home yet otherwise I would have had a better pic to post.  ;D Black decals...the V2 survivor I sold to get this one had white decals. I need to see some more EK2 original paint pics to see if there is a trend or not. Danny is probably right though - after all it is a Mopar the most consistently inconsistent auto maker out there!

Now this draws another interesting question..... I thought that the letters on the wing that read "ROAD RUNNER SUPERBIRD" always matched in color to what was on the quarters??  This car appears to have white letters on the wing and black on the quarters.

I wish the car was home.  Here is another lousy pic where the letters look black....maybe the flash made them look white.

I think the letters are white looking due to the reflective properties of the decal? :shruggy:
wingless now, but still around.

whew, Ok.  Forgot they were reflective decals.  They sure appeared white in the first picture.  Now if we can just figure out this whole white/black letter thing.  We have already ordered the decals (black letters) for the K2 'Bird that I am doing.

Well - I can tell you mine is all original so you should be good to go.  :2thumbs:

Does any of your paperwork show what dealer got this car new? Do you or anyone else have a good picture of a EK2 car with the white decals? I have invisioned this thing for 25 years having black decals and now with Dougs picture of the car with white decals I can't picture what it would look like on a completed car. I have been to my share of  mopar shows and can't say I have ever seen one in this color combo.

I like the white ones on the K2 cars.

that's not to say they couldn't get swapped forever ago, though.  when Dad brought home the Petty 'bird it had no decals, and he managed to find extras and put them on the car in '76.  so, until about two years ago, it had one white plymouth on the driver quarter panel and black wing decals.  it has a passenger side decal in white now, too...

the original owner sent me a pic of the car in 1970 with the white decals on it--that's about as conclusive as it gets.  all that, though, and the car's worn black decals for 32 years!

The Superbird Fleet manual of technical paperwork is something like 150 pages.   We still have it available thru Daytona Superbird Auto Club.   $25 includes the shipping.   PM me if you would like to order one.   We also have the 1,920 Superbird VIN list book (photo shown) at $20 with shipping included.
