Never a factory option, but I have seen a lot of cars from the '70s have them aftermarket installed. :yesnod: :yesnod: Guess from JC Whitney. :D

The only ones of seen that looked "OK" were the small chrome ones. IMO

If you just want the protection you could just clamp them on with plastic spring clamps and then just tame them off while at a show or whatever.

AMD might be selling a lot less sheetmetal these days if the factory had originally equipped these things with mud flaps.

A buddy of mine bought the common black plastic flaps and clamped them on just like Brian said.   :yesnod:  Just for driving.

A former friend of mine went to a sign maker and bought a sheet of the magnetic material out of which they make the car door signs for realtors, etc. He trimmed it to fit on the quarter panel behind the tires on his '68 Camaro to keep the rubber off when he did burnouts at the track, I see no reason it wouldn't work for preventing stone chips while driving.

Perhaps, but I can't help wonder how many people would have torn the ugly things off as soon as they got their new Charger home?

I couldn't agree more!! Mud flaps are far uglier than a rock chip!

Sounds like a good idea, especially if it was body color.

My 68 had mudflaps on it the before the resto. I did not take them off so they must have not looked too bad.

I have heard of guys using LPS to put a coating on the lower section behind the rear wheels and replace it every couple of years.

Where do I get the Chrome mud flaps if they are the best option.

Cool idea I've seen, clear poly plastic (like 5/16")  :coolgleamA: with the edges polished too, nearly invisible...

I will see if I can did up a photo. Basically, 1/2" clear lexan plastic, any shape you want. Just polish the cut edge.

I bought a sheet of clear lexan plastic and it's 1/8" thick or .100 thick the sheet says.  I will custom make a mud flap and see how it looks and post a picture.  I seen "Charger" black mud flaps on a 72 or 73 charger this weekend at a car show and they would look nice on my 68 charger cause they say "Charger" but the guy got them in 1979 and I can't find them online.  My plan is to clamp them on while I drive the car and take them off when I am at car shows.  Thanks for all you help and ideas.  I wouldn't have even thought of clear acrylic mud flaps if you didn't mention it.  I found this link for acrylic corvette mud flaps: http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette.html?frame=1.1159&searched=clear

There's a heap of clear bodywork films available out there. 3M do some

I made these quick, to drive it for glass and before any clear bra. Cost about $7. To clear bra the whole bottom and valence is $350.  :o I think its worth it though. They will even bevel the leading edge to hide it.  :coolgleamA: Will be nice to have these in the trunk ~ just in case.

I used them on my 70 many moons ago, but I drove the piss out of it and spent a lot of my time on dirt and gravel.

Patronus,
If that's lexan you havn't pulled the protective film off yet. It should be crystal clear, not foggy.

:o @ 68charger440R/T.... Now that's what you call a dream garage...

i wish, its semi opaque, I go for privacy in a mud flap...  :eyes:

Here is a picture of my 1968 Dodge Charger with removable clear mud flaps that I made.  Each one has a zip tie and a couple clamps to secure it.  I take them off at car shows.  You can't see the rear mud flap but if you look closely you can see a yellow clamp securing it to the rear quarter panel (yes, the clear mud flap is there).  They are virtually invisible.  I would much rather look at these than rock chips.

Yeah, nice car! The flaps look good too. I should make some nicer, clear ones like that.
Also, you can actually polish the edge. Basically get it clear as well, makes em real hard to see.
