How to read the Passenger Car Parts Catalog

Sometimes I can't explain myself better, sorry

the 4 first VIN characters will be found on the parts catalog...

XS29 for example... 68/70 Charger "special" "fastback"

mine is for example WH23

Charger/Coronet 71/74 "High Class" Hardtop.

Being on my case ( 3rd gen ), Charges and Coronets are under same W letter, the 23 indicates is a Charger, since not anymore 23 Coronets, like on previous years

So, you'll be able to find W column, X column R column etc... when the parts are common to any kind of class line.

When the Class line makes difference, on Text section of parts catalog the columns you'll find are 21, 23, 29, 4X etc ( part of the VIN too )... and on part description, you'll find if is to R, X, W or whatever, one or several.

that is at least on my 74 catalog. Can be some diff on earliers. I can't recall right now

better now ?

I'm a long way from my books to check but I can't recall ever seeing the second letter in there.

Nacho-RT74

It is posible, on Earliers didn't appear the class line anywhere. On 71/74 they do in certain cases.

On pics posted, however we found numbers 1 2 or 3, what MAYBE have a legend for that, what maybe translates on Class line, and thats why on next years changed to state class line letter instead number

here is on 71 and laters catalog. Check down the C line ( Chrysler ) and you find the price class lines. Is a randomly page I found as an example. It can appear on several ways, like on item descriptions

Check on the first pics you posted on thread... you find NUMBERS, THOSE MUST BE DOWN A LEGEND CODE, with a similar meaning

You also can find Body class line... the 21 and similar numbers ( interiors requires this selection for example )

Yea, I don't see any of that in the 69 parts catalog that I have.   http://www.jimshine.com/charger/69_MOPAR.pdf

I have doubt after see this 69 catalog... Thats not how I have seen before the pre 70 catalogs are really made, totally different. And I have seen some and in fact sold. It looks more like the 70s configuration.

I can't see an X to say CHARGER

Maybe is then WP29 like on laters ?

The information section is missed from the scan

Thats what we were saying though.  No XP29 in the 69 catalog.  A W because it is basically a Coronet and then in the text if the part is Charger specific it will say "Charger" typically.
(going by memory here)

The information sections are there. Pages INF-2 through INF-12 (the first 13 pages of the PDF) Same as my copy.

There is another reason.
Note the printed version

APRIL 1970, some pages JANUARY 71.

earliers configuration catalogs are totally diff. Trust me and I'm PRETTY SURE they got the X model line separated from W on earliers versions. Like Barracudas got the B separated from the V, being both A bodies.

I have 66 through 71 and I can tell you from 66 to 69 there is no X in there.

Nacho-RT74

although is the VIN decode, note the PDF you posted doesn't even show the X decoding.

well in that case, will show W (something) and 29.

A 29 Coronet doesn't exist so any W and 29 combo will mean a Charger

Kinda on 3rd gens... doesn't exist a WH23 Coronet, but a WL43... being the 4 the diff what determinates Coronet, and 2 a Charger, like on VINs

No.  The columns at the top will have a W for the Coronet (and Charger) parts.  If it is something Charger specific, the in the text it will say the word "Charger" and in the drawings it will say Charger.  No P no S no second X and no 29.  That is from 69 back that I am speaking to.
