Anyone know what happened to this copper Daytona from Ontario.? Vin#? Is it the one that burnt in Ottawa?

I believe it is the one that burnt.

It is being saved/restored. The shell has been dipped, pulled and hammered on by a metal master. NOS nose and fenders purchased and I sold him a real wing for it. It is looking damn good. The lower half of the car was pretty well good.

65post

Is there a list out there of all the Daytonas shipped to Ontario? And what is the total that were shipped north?

I have a copy of the list but not here with me at the moment. I remember it being around 50 or so for Canada - can't remember how many in Ontario.

Glad to hear it's being restored. :2thumbs: I cried when I read the article about the fire :'(

There were a total of 50 cars shipped north of the border, and here's the list of Ontario-shipped Daytonas:

Just one...

Yup - Argyle Dodge. Now known as Cooksville Chrysler.
They were the dealelership that sold the last Hemi Challenger Convertible ever built....My friend has owned it since 1977........Yes I have tried 100 times to buy it over the years!  :yesnod:

Looking at the Ontario list - My Hemi-X came from Paul Willison's (still open but they moved after a major fire) and I was an apprentice mechanic at West-End Chrysler (I think they are still there) in the '70's!

Is it this one?... Thanks hemigeno for the list.

414632 should still be around somewhere.  Hemi Orange with a black interior.   Duncan Ackerman owned it, most likely into the early 90's.    He owned a Superbird and in the mid 80's was working at a local auto parts store and was offered the Daytona.  As I recall, it was someone who walked into the store, or one of those word of mouth deals.  It's in one of the old DSAC newsletters.

632 or 622?

Ghoste

632.  The one sold in London.  There was copper (who was it remarked about all the copper Daytonas coming to Ontario?) 440 one down in my area that belonged to the original owner when it was around here.  Said owner lived in Leamington so London is the closest one-obviously just throwing darts in the dark here.
He sold the car in the early to mid 80's and the last I saw it (85 or 86?) I believe it had went to the London area (coincidentally or not) and then I lost track of it.

The black and the copper Daytona's pictured were one number off VIN wise.
I believe the Copper one is the one I went to see in London for sale at the Charterhorse or something bodyshop. This was around 1986 when I was in high school. I had a buddy who was thinking of buying it. It was a 440 4-speed car, copper with tan interior, fibreglass front fenders, trailer hitch and a small front floor patch.

I remember Frank well because he was insistant on how Daytona's came from the factory with fibreglass fenders and I was calling him on it :icon_smile_wink:

Dave, I am thinking that copper one is the one I am wondering about.  Any idea on the VIN or where it is today?

maxwellwedge

The copper one is the one that was burned in the fire - being restored in Stoney Creek. I think it's 631.

Ghoste

Do you know anything else about it's history?

maxwellwedge

I know the current owner bought it from Wellington Motors (a Moparfest Sponsor) who had it for a lot of years. They had it on eBay some years back and I tried to buy it (for around 85k) but was unsuccessful.

It is a T5, tan interior 4-speed.

I will probably post some progress pics of the resurrection in a month or two. The owner has stepped up large to save the original car.  :2thumbs:

Ghoste

The reason I ask is because when the car was in Leamington a good friend of mine tried to buy it.  He offered 12,000 for it which in 1982 (ish) was a LOT of money for the car.  The guy refused to sell but what we found out later was that he couldn't since it wasn't technically his.  It belonged to the father of a girl he was living with and probably married to (but I don't know for a fact they were married).  In any case, the car was still in his name but he had given it to his daughter to drive and she was letting her dude drive it to work each day.
Fast forward to 2000 and the guy is in my hometown now but he was spreading a story to anyone that would listen that he was the original owner of the car and that it was an original 440 Six Pack.  You have NO idea how hard a time I had trying to correct people about both of those lies.
My buddy that tried to buy it and I still reminisce about the car once in a while and we always wonder where it went.  As I said, I do know that not long after his offer it turned up in London but the last I saw it was the mid 80's.
I sure do wish I had pics of it sitting in front of that body shop in Leamington in the early 80's.

maxwellwedge

Half of them were factory Six-Packs weren't they?  :icon_smile_big:

If the one you remember was a T5, tan interior stick then it was probably 631 - but that was sold new in Hamilton which may or not matter.

Some friends of mine moved to Leamington in the late 60's. We were just little kids then. Does the last name Matcheo (spelling?) strike any chords with you?

Yes the black one in the first picture on this thread is 414630, the copper one beside it is 414631 as stated.

Over the years I have tried to save pics of all the Canadian Daytonas and some of the history of each.
Eventually I'd like to have something on my website dedicated to the known Canadian Daytona's and make it a living document as more pics and stories surface I could add them.

Hopefully start it over the winter months when I have some more free time!

Great topic!

Hamilton isn't all that far from Chatham either when you are talking about Daytonas.  The name Matcheo doesn't mean anything to me BUT... we had a staff golf scramble thing this afternoon for RM and the subject of that same Daytona that I am speaking of came up and someone recalled it as going from Leamington to London and the London owners name being Frank Rondinelli or Rondinello.  Does that name mean anything?

I don't remember Frank's last name. After all this was around 1986 or 1987. He was the owner of a bodyshop, Charterhorse or something with a horse in it. I bet I still have his card somewhere in my car stuff. Finding it would be a whole different story. He was selling a Rockin Ronnie Hawkins 1971 Hemi Runner at the same time.

Frank's last name is (was?) Rondinelli. He owns (owned) Charterhouse collision. I could swear I saw photos of this car pulling a race car (now this is going back 25 or 30 years). I believe that John Brain showed me the photo. I last saw Frank about 15 years ago when I was having a car repaired in his shop.

I'm sure most people from Ontario recognize the black Daytona with the "Rare 69" plate as belonging to Peter Neimanis from Guelph. When I met him (circa 1980) he was on the police force in Guelph. I'm sure there are some old photographs of his Daytona and my Superbird together, as I moved to Guelph in the fall of 1980 to attend university there. I believe that Peter still owns his Daytona. Many of you old timers will recall that I sold my Superbird and hemi Satellite to fund my schooling in England in the winter of 1982. Indeed, my buddy in England (Tim Fennell) sent me this thread to respond to. Tim's coming to Canada this August and we're headed on to the Mopar Nats if anybody feels like meeting up with us.

This thread references the name "Matcheo". In the deep recesses of my memory the name "Machado" comes up, but I can no longer remember what it has to do with the car - probably another owner of it though.

TiMopar

Somewhere I have some pictures of my then wife sitting and lying on the wing of Peter Neimanis' Daytona in a bikini... I seem to recall that car was originally an F8 car.

Ghoste

Dave, I would very much like to see you again this August.  I'll be sure and contact you shortly before the Nats.

maxwellwedge

I am fairly certain Peter sold the black Daytona - which was a color change - I think it was originally white or beige. He called me a year or two ago to see if I wanted to buy it.

Beep Beep Dave

The black Daytona did sell to a Dodge Dealer. It was in fact originally a F8 car, but did spend some time being white back in the day. I thought it looked great wearing the black paint. Peter was a really nice guy too boot. I still remember him asking my young son if he wanted to sit in it.

I will have to dig through to find some pics!

The restorer moved into newer, bigger digs and has been focussing on getting the new building together for the last 7-8 months so that Daytona, Doctona and my 70 Charger have been in a holding pattern. Work has just started to recommence this past week.
