I haven't ever seen a J code car without the boxes, but that doesn't mean they didn't make a mistake somewhere along the line. Never say neverr when it comes to these old cars.

This might sound like a stupid question, but how do you open the hood on a daytona?  Do you have to jam your hands in the headlight openings?

Not a stupid question at all...

First you have to pull the two hood pins, then jab your fingers between the hood seal and the hood.  Lift up on the hood until it catches on the hood safety latch, then reach in with one hand and feel around for the safety latch itself (since the pull handle has been removed).  Once you pull back on the safety latch the hood can be raised - oh yeah, don't forget to try and keep the hood pins from slipping or dangling down and scratching the paint!

It's somewhat of a pain.

I was thinking of making a daytona clone out of my 70 and thought about how I was suppose to open the hood.  I was quickly discouraged, but now you got me turned on again!!!! woohoo

Then there is also the worry of scratching the paint when driving the car due to the laynards blowing around. They don't move a lot, but they can rub on the hood.

I had given serious thought about going white with black wing/stripe and black interior on my clone. Then red, then black, then red and finally black. The Superbird is definitely staying black...I think.  :eyes:
