I am hoping to find one reasonable on ebay. Here is what i have so far.

I also see som advertised that are 1.915 wide?????

3   one listing for some snap on ones part number  S9479  S9365
The one question I have is this i know truck ones are the 2-1/8 sockets  but which one (size wise and P# wise for my 68 and 70 Charger.    PLEASE HELP :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

I was thinking that was the one I needed as well, but was not sure. Any Idea why some other companies are making them 1.906????? I really don't want to round off the ball joints when i am trying to get them out but I want the socket to fit as well? Anybody hade trouble with this?

them upper ball joints are well tight to undo , even with a 3 foot extention on the braker bar !!! did not want to false any thing  as could off snapped something ! so i heated the control arm up with a torch !! easy then ! :yesnod:
i got two scockets  one came in a front end tool  kit , the other one bought on its own from year one , they both worked but one was a little loose fitting ! ,

So was that an upper ball joint that you removed from a 69 Charger? I was thinking that that Ball joint was 1 29/32 (1.906)???? not sure though just what I was told. Thanks

tan top

yep upper ball joint !!  as  bottoms  you cant undo , they are part of the steering knuckle

to be honest ,  thinking  its  not a lot bigger &  its square the top of the ball joint , don't think it would  round anything off ! but getting  the olds ones off is really tight

Ok just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the part number.

oldcarnut

I recently rebuilt the suspension on my 70 RR.  I didn't buy the socket tool because either Autozone or Advance had it their loner tools for free to use.  Since that was probably going to be my last time needing one, it didn't make sense to pay for it.

troy.70R/T

I already checked both those places and they do not have them in their kits. I even tried to buy the socket thru them and most just give you a dumb a$$ look when you tell them what you are looking for. I did have advance look it up for me awhile back and they had it in their book but it was no longer avaliable.

oldcarnut

I went by today at the Advance store to check the kit I used.  Its the Powerbuilt tools kit #46.  It had 2 sizes of the ball joint squares in it as well as as bunch of other stuff.  Maybe they tried to give you something else for the loaner.  If they have this number then it might work for you.

troy.70R/T

Thanks for checking into for me oldcarnut. I will stop by Advance on Friday or Saturday and check out that kit number. and if they don't have it maybe they will order it. :shruggy:

I found this little tidbit. Maybe it'll help, maybe it won't:

Or you buy a cheapo made in China 2" 12-point socket for $3-$10, take a die grinder to it and carve a little of the corners off four of the points.... :shruggy:

I wonder if they have the same donar tools at all Advance Auto parts stores ??

troy.70R/T

I stopped by Advance yesterday and asked them For kit #46 and the upper ball joint sockets are in there. :2thumbs: I have used their suspension tool kits before on other stuff but I guess I must have used a diffrent kit. :shruggy:  The kit cost $160.00 to rent. I could also buy the kit for $160.00. BTW the sockets in the kit look like they have never been used so I guess no one else has any idea that Advance has the tools.  Thanks oldcarnut.

oldcarnut

Glad they had it for you. It's just nice with the rental that you get the $160 back when you turn it in.  Now it's time for me to go finish off the engine bay sandblasting and priming on the RR.  :paintingpink:  Good luck with the ball joints.

troy.70R/T

Thanks and good luck with the sand blasting.
