I've never seen that commercial.

Weird that they used a Plymouth in a Dodge commercial.

Ghoste

I remember it, as well as the "Boys Are Back" campaign and calling Alderman and Geoffrion the Dodge Boys etc.  Back when they were still proud of Plymouth and not afraid to call a Mitsubishi a Dodge.

it's not just a dodge commercial. it's the performance line-up from chrysler, and also mentions the laser

The kid must have lived under a rock not knowing his dad had a Superbird  :smilielol:

Odd that they spent exactly half the running time of the spot showing the Superbird instead of selling the new product.

That's what I was thinking as well, but then perhaps he locked it away to keep his son from getting the keys...LOL    (Son, you can keep your Japanese car with the Dodge name plate...I'll keep my American built musclecar......)

There is no tie-in at the end to bridge the old and new.  the kid talks about the stealth.  the dad talks about the 'bird.  end of commercial.  no 'car guys are car guys no matter the era--performance is back at chrysler' or some such.  no nod from dad toward the new technology--hell the kid says he 'gets' the dad's perspective, which, as has been pointed out here, does not help sell the new car.  it's oddly disjointed.

I don't remember the commercial OR the print ad, either.  Dave, is it somewhere accessible in your stacks?

I thought it sounded like when the old man said " son " it was a young guy coming to date his daughter type of thing sound to it and would explain why the young guy did not know about the bird

It would seem as if the stealth was named correctly as you rarely ever see one today.  The Superbird on the other hand.......

Don't forget the "Daytona" at the time was the Dodge version of the Laser.  ;)

Never saw that commercial before! Perhaps they decided the Superbird "upstaged" the car they were trying to sell? :shruggy:
