Superbird Fender Tag - row 2 transmission questions.

Greetings Again,

The third set of three numbers in the second to top row of Superbird fender tags denotes the transmission.  I have similar questions on these numbers to the questions I have on the engines.

Four different numbers show up that I have seen:

#### 670
#### 671   Automatic - Hemi
#### 672

#### 676   Manual - all engines

Same question as before - what is the #### prefix of the Mopar part number?
And, what did these part number denote?

The 676 is pretty easy to figure out - it only shows up with 4 speeds and all the 4 speeds I have seen have it.  So, I guess this means it denotes 833 Hemi 4-speed transmission.  Since the Engine assembly would have all the necessary components already on it, I can see why there would not be a need for different part numbers between the 440s and Hemis.

My question is why do the automatics have three different part numbers?  The 671 is easy as it only shows up on Hemi - automatics.  The 670 and 672 are the question.  At first I thought is may have something to do with column versus floor shift but that didn't seem to pan out.  Does anyone know what the prefix for these numbers was and what they mean?

Thanks,
Brennan

Code 670 goes with 440-4bbl (E86) cars and 672 goes with 440-6bbl (E87) cars.

3410670
3410671
3410672

3410683= assembly code 676 Hemi 4 speed

Does anyone know why the 6 barrel transmission would be different?  I understand the Hemis with the 8 bolt crank needing a different code but what was unique about 6 pak cars?
Thanks

Didn't Hemi automatics have a higher stall converter, extra clutch plate or two, and standard trans cooler?

Just a guess, but possibly shift down linkage differences for the 440, 440-6 & Hemi.

gtx6970

different internal components between 440 440+6 and hemi
more clutch plates, different gov weights for  changes in shift points , 4 pinion planentaries, and valve body differences between  Hemi and 440+6 trans over the typical 440 auto trans, then there is a different torque conv for hemi versus anything else( Hemi has larger drive lugs )

All manual trans birds would be the Hemi 4 spd so no differences there

From what I remember the torque converter was from a 6 cylinder .And the 727 torqueflite clutch pack had removed a spacer and added a extra disc. And whatelse mods they did
