I have to admit that for a second or two half way through the movie I seriously thought about turning my 69 Charger into a General Lee.

The movie was that good.

I'm not going to tell you anything about the movie.

That wouldn't be fair.

Just get in line early on Friday night.

Did you notice that they used the same camera angles?  Made it more familiar.

BTW, when you guys go see the movie, don't jump up and run out to be the first one out of the parking lot.

You'll miss some great outtakes including the destruction of a few cars in the freeway jump scene. It was awesome.

I saw that poster and 2 others for sale at Meier's just two days ago!!   Had a bunch of them!!
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

i also watched it tonight and i must say it's great! now 2 things i strongly urge:
1. don't go in thinking it's 1979 john schneider and tom wopat. it isn't get that mindset out of your head before you go in or you will be disappointed
2. i don't like the way ben jones has gone about it.. BUT don't take your 8 year old in there.. way too many G'D's and SH** for me to ever think about having a kid in there..
car stuff was absolutely awesome. ALL the jumps you see are real jumps, not cg's. only thing computer put in was exhaust etc under the cable pulled cars.. plot wise.. typical dukes episode.. but all things considered, i loved it, i will watch it again, and i will definitely buy the movie. but then again i may be biased.  :)

Thanks Strat, I kind of like this version of their poster, too.   I saw the price on that, whoa, but that is framed I see, the poster alone is less than ten bucks.

I have the smaller version of that same poster. My son works for a Dodge dealership and they were handing them out.

I watched the "making of..." show on CMT and based on what I heard, the plot sounds identical to one I just saw on CMT.  Buying up Hazzard for strip mining.  dont mean to wreck it, but I was hioping for something a little fresher.  Cant be hard to write an original story for that series.  What other crimes can Boss Hogg try to commit and the dukes foil?  How about a fake IPO on Cooters Auto Parts Depot?  Or Boss selling pictures of Daisy on the internet?

Oh well, I cant wait for Friday!!!!!!

As long as they don't have aliens visiting or a robot replacing the sheriff, the plot should be okay.

I was not going to go, but I have seen specials on the stunts they did and I have to see them.  Gotta see the car flying.  So I am taking my Mom (not the 8 year old for he is into the original show big time and does not need to hear the cursing version lol) and my Charger and off we go on Friday.

Never have been into the Dukes thing. Guess I don't quite understand the whole allure of it :ahum:. Sure souds like it makes you guys feel good though. Glad they went ahead and just made a single movie so they didn't have to trash a boatload of Chargers again. I may watch it if someone gives me a copy though. There was this Dukes video game my brother had that was sort of fun to play after drinking a few beers!

Why not have an episode where Boss Hogg is switching VIN plates from a rusted out HEMI Charger onto a Charger he's planning on racing against the Duke boys and then selling as a Numbers Matching Car!!!

Well, if it makes you feel better to believe that.  I'll go watch the movie for the sake of seeing a "20 foot Charger", but I'll be the last one to go out hunting for a 69 because of it.

Strat, I just read this quote from one of the reviewers on that site you linked. Is it me or is this guy sound a little too big for his britches:

"Even as the film tediously tends to its arbitrary plot, Chandrasekhar displays almost oneiric reverence for the iconography of the TV show."
-- Ed Gonzalez, SLANT MAGAZINE

I'm guessing he's probably worn out two or three thesauruses in the past couple years trying to dazzle his readers with words even he doesn't understand.

Ghoste

hotrod98

I wonder why so many people seem to miss the point of DOH. It was never intended to be Shakespeare or Tolstoy. It was meant to be funny and campy. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fun. I noticed that the Dukes of Hazzard themed car show here a couple of weeks ago at the local Dodge dealership brought a few people out of the woods, but God bless them...they're Americans just like you and a I. They may never own a 69 Charger, but they enjoy the show and the movie just the same. There's nothing wrong with that.
If someone doesn't like the DOH, then don't watch it. I would love to know how many of the people on here that knock the whole DOH thing will sneak out and see the movie.  :icon_smile_big:

I don't see how anyone can be a Charger (or Mopar) nut without taking interest in the Dukes of Hazzard.  The series and the movie are both demonstrations of the power of Mopar.  You're not going to see any of those sissy modern cars taking curves and slinging dirt like that.  And the engine sounds alone are enough to put a grin on your face.  I don't really expect much from this movie as far as plot or acting (look at the terrible casting), but the biggest star of the movie will get it right.

I heard a radio critic really slamming it today.  He said the movie was just a bunch of guys driving real fast and yelling yeehaw, occasionally interrupted by a girl in short shorts or a bikini so they could catch their breath and then go drive real fast again and yell yeehaw.
Sounds like an ideal way to spend a day to me.

Just saw the movie, it was great, really liked it.   Some suspense, not too predictable, ups and downs, cool music, funny, lots of driving scenes.

Someone mentioned to watch the out-takes at the end, thanks, I was going to leave after the movie, then remembered that, saw some great clips of some car scenes that weren't used in the film.

I probably would have liked this movie no matter what as long as there was a real Charger in it, but I figure the movie would still be alright for people who weren't Dukes or Charger fans.

Thought personally that the movie was pretty good. Other than the use of foul language everytime I turned around. Then again it seems every movie in Hollywood these days uses curse words like there is nothing wrong with them.

Not a good movie for small children who repeat everything they hear.

Daytona R/T SE

I just got home from watching the movie. Let's just say it was WAY better than what I'd anticipated. Some really cool stunts and jumps. I hadn't been to the movie theater in town for several years, I was surprised to see the ticket prices have sky rocketed to 4 bucks a ticket :o   but it was worth it :yesnod:

Almost makes me want to dig this old project out of the corner and get 'er going  :drive:

DarkAngel0816

I have seen it twice this weekend.  Friday with my Mom who gave the okay for me to take my 8 year old brother to it earlier today (Saturday).

First I grew up as a huge DOH fan back in the day and it played a huge part on me buying a Charger.  As a little girl I used to bring tons of GL matchbox cars in my little prissy purse to church for I loved the car.  As I once told someone...back then I wanted to be Laura Ingalls, but date Bo Duke...and drive a GL.

When I decided after going to many classic shows that I wanted to get a classic and restore it as much as possible myself it was a given that due to my past love of GL As a kid....I wanted a Charger.  I knew it was a 69 they generally used, but 68 and 70's are pretty close.  I loved the body style.

So I have my 70 now.

As for the moive...it was not as bad as I thought it would be.  Yeah it was not like the original, but the stunts were hot...and the blowing up crap was fun.  lol  The patrons in the theater laughed at the right parts and it was a good time.  My kid brother missed some of the sexual references and etc...went over his head...but he loved it.  :)

I thought it was ok. The real star of the movie was definately the General. I was quite amused at all the new stunts they put it through.
The rest of the movie was ok. Nothing will beat the original series as far as the dukes go.
Thats my review.

Too bad they couldn't have fit Miss Emma Tisdale in there somewhere. She was funny riding that dirtbike everywhere. I'm suprised Chicksaw county didn't make it in there either with that black cop in the green uniform.

And who was Pauline? Was she ever in the original show?

Oh yeah, I just watched an original TV show from CMT and guess what it was about?? Boss hogg taking the Duke's land and other's land so he could sell it to some rich guy to start a strip mining operation. Even mentioned the core samples!
"This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold..." -- Numbers 7:84 KJV

DarkAngel0816

As far as my old mind remembers...no Pauline ever in it.
I love my 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Clone

Pauline was an added character (and I have no idea why).  Same with Sheev.  He, at least, had some purpose, but they could have just done the explosives themselves.  If they had given us a Boss and Rosco duo that even slightly resembled the originals, this movie would have been sooo much better for it.
Matt. 14:8 (KJV) "And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, 'give me here John Baptist's head in a Charger.'"

General_01

My family and I loved the movie. The crowd in the theater with us all laughed at the right parts. When they showed the outtakes at the end, the people didn't cheer. There were a lot of groans from people. I loved the scenes with the General. My favorite scene(s) was the chase sequence through Atlanta. I could have done without the pot scenes. I agree with Miked about the swearing. I remember trying to get into R rated movies with my buddies when I was 14-15 years old. My wife and I took our girls with us. They are 9 and 8. The pot stuff went right over their heads. They already know swearing is bad even if other people do it (including Dad and Grandpa). I was sitting with our youngest and she had a blast. My favorite part of watching the movie was when the boys got out of the car at the beginning and the doors opened. She freaked out and started saying LOUDLY " The doors opened! The doors opened!" I said just wait honey. You'll see. Her response was " But the DOORS opened!" Everybody around us was laughing at her reaction. It was priceless

I liked the short scenes they had in there with actors from another movie, that one short scene, you know the one I mean.  Won't mention the movie, that was too funny.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Charger_Fan

I saw it last night with my family.
It was much better than I expected, even though I still feel that most of the actors were incorrect for their parts. The worst of which was the guy who did Roscoe's part! To me, he wasn't Roscoe at all.
The ones that fit the best IMO were Enos & Uncle Jesse.

It was still a cool show & was great to see a Charger as the MAIN character on the big screen. :icon_smile_big:

I also saw how Travis' General got that munched right fender. :o :icon_smile_big:

Oh & I agree about the swearing, some of it was uncalled for. Sometimes it seemed they were swearing for the shock factor...it just seemed out of place in the movie to me.
The outtake when whats-his-bucket was hanging from the fence by one leg & the other putz came up & unzipped his fly...although admittedly funny, it wasn't called for in the movie at all.
