At it again! 1970 Charger resurrection

68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

We need to look Into a rebuild for our hood blinkers too.. 
Need to spend some more time on the 70 registry.

As requested...

As some may know, I had a knee injury at work a bit ago and I will be off work for a bit. Well, the doc. says that I shouldn't need surgery and after a few weeks of physical therapy, taking it easy, and not working I should be fine.  

What that means to me is grab a buddy or family member, get my ass in the garage as much as possible, and get as much done as I can while still taking it easy on my knee.

Here's the start of what I'm doing this weekend.

So far what has been completed this weekend is:
   -right rear footwell cut out and new one burnt in place
   -floor pan removed
   -rear tail panel reinforced
   -torsion bars removed (I made my own tool using a u-bolt, 2 8" pieces of 2x4, and a 1" rubber hose)
   -ground plug welds
   -ground plug welds
   -ground plug welds

What I now have to place an order for....
   -torsion bar crossmember
   -subframe connectors

And.... wait for it.......

Wound up chasing a couple pinholes which turned into this...



Test fit the outer wheelhouse and it look like it only need a little massaging.



Wound up test fitting the new quarter and I am very pleased with the fit overall.




Then some more Zero Rust before I start welding. Hopefully next weekend will bring more progress!

You're Welcome. What coating did you use before setting your quarter panel on?

I haven't burned the quarter in yet but I plan on using some undercoating of some sort... I hadn't gotten around to getting any yet.

However, if you're talking about the inner structure I have been using Zero Rust, its a real thick primer/encapsulator after treating with their prep to clean and treat the metal.

I'll vouch for the Zero Rust; it held the rust at bay for years until I could afford body work...

Thanks for the encouragment guys!  I'm glad to hear that someone else is vouching for the zero rust. Anyone have suggestions for the undercoating for the quarters? I have all sorts of gravity and siphon fed guns, not aure what my largest nozzle is tho.  I am not opposed to spray bomb stuff either.  Also, I'm not a billionaire so a quality product for a good price is what I'm going for.

I got the outer wheel well burnt in.





I test fit the trunk extension.




Did everyone else's extension look like this where it met the rear crossmember?  :confused:



I schutz'ed the quarter panel.



And, I found a pair of hi/lo horns in GREAT shape for a really good price and those came in today!

Thanks!  Here's some more.



My only problem right now is that the extension is hitting the side marker and not allowing the quarter to sit properly... I am think that I will be needing to cut the welds at the crossmember and redo those after pulling the outer edge of the extension down more - Has anyone else had this issue or do the marker lights usually touch the extension?  :confused:





I did throw the quarter extensions, trunk, side marker, rear valence, and corner caps to double check fit and I anticipate being able to get it all satisfactory tomorrow.

I seen all the bracing you put in. Does it hurt to take the doors off before bracing the door opening?

It shouldn't hurt, I did it before I cut the floor out to be safe and make sure that the body didn't flex or torque on me as I was cutting everything out.  So far, so good!
