71 speedo/gas guage

Hi I have a 71 and my gas gauge only goes up to half tank mark when i fill the whole tank up, and my speedo don't work.... I'm not a mechanic and never done any work like that.

On your gas gauge it sounds like the sending unit.
On your speedo remove the cable from the cluster. The cable has a plastic end with a little finger that snaps it onto the back of the cluster. Push the end of the plastic finger against the cable and pull. Try driving and see if the end of the metal cable (should have a square head) inside the sheathing spins.
