Whatever became of this HEMI DAYTONA

Saw this in a old March 80 wingcar newsletter written by the then at the time wingcar newsletter editor Jim R who once owned at the time 2 hemi daytonas. On a earlier post Ghoste in Canada recalled hearing a urban legend something about a destroyed hemi daytona in quarry in Canada. But wasnt sure if this was the one.As this one was in a quarry .But a Quarry filled with 80 ft of water

When I was at the printers getting the February Issue lined up, my printer Bruce
told me a guy came into the shop to use the copying machine. As he was talking
to Bruce he saw the -club papers on the counter and saId that he knew where one
of them "were.. He knew where one of them was at the bottom of a quarry and
Is intact.
It -Is suppose to be a Hemi Daytona to boot but this quarry Is filled wIth
water.
Well, I checked out the shop where this guy works and It Is a scuba shop. This
guys name is Steve Deem and during our conversatIon did find out he knew about
cars tor he drove s Super Stock Z-ll 427 Chevrolet (Via 409) back in the early
sixties for a Memphis, Tennessee Chevy dealer. This was one of 4 cars that ran
against the Thunderbolt Falrlanes and the Ramchargers. and also was a
lightweight car.
Steve told me beside the Daytona was another 68 Charger, with a Hemi, intact and
also many others other cars down there also. He pointed to his van outside and said it
was salvaged from the depths of a quarry and that he uses it for
transportation.
The Daytona is missing the air cleaner and since he has renewed interest in the
car when he saw the club's printing at the prInters.
I asked Steve what he was going to do with the car atter he salvaged it from the
80 foot depth. "I'm going to part it out". Since Im searching for a
Daytona -- asked him for 1st dibs on it. Steve has a large truck with twin
booms and has large flat bed on it also for his salvage work. I will keep you
posted if Steve brings the Tona up from the depths.
How these cars get there anyway is a oouple of reasons. Some of the people who
buy these cars and couldnlt live with them dumped them and reported it stolen
and got insurance money. Kids also steal them and take them for a joy ride and
when the fun is over they ditch them where there cannot be any evldence against
them. Hey GUYS: are there any quarrys around your area'l

this will drop revs from about 3000 at 55mph with a 3.55 rear to about 2000

I talked to my buddy.  He thinks he still has pics on his laptop and he's going to try and find them.  He said he doesn't remember if he had anything with the vin or not but he'll check for that too.  He didn't think it was a quarry, he seemed to recall it as more like a gully.  It was in Nova Scotia (6pk Runner are you listening?) apperently and as far as he knows, it's still there.  It was 5000 for the vin tag, the fender tag, the portion of the rad cradle and trunk lip with numbers.

Ataboy magnumcharger, good memory! Not sure how accurate the dates are but I wonder if that was the car the mustang enthusiast had? Maybe 69 500's father kept in touch with him?

69_500

I can say that my dad didn't keep in touch with them. As he really didn't keep in touch with anyone after he sold his wing cars off in 87. But he does remember who had what at that time. I don't recall any car in a canyon though.

Burnorama, Tulsarama, canyonorama, what is this an anti-Chrysler movement or what??

nascarxx29

.In the same place I found the quarry story. It reports George Barris a known customizer .Had a hemi daytona at his shop with work being done to it.And the car took of on its own and got destroyed. Then I got a serial number club listings .Of club members. And next to a hemi superbird it notes killed under car.I can find the list and serial number of thiskiller hemi wing. Some of this stuff is urban legends.Until concrete proof surfaces to collaberate

If it's a real car I would consider going after it but I'm under the impression it's just a myth or stretched story about the ravine Daytona i bought from newfoundland
