Aero Cars at Monster Mopar?

I got my flyer to register for the Monster Mopar show and it states that there is an "Aero Car Reunion with Wing Car Pace Laps" (funny how they worded that). Anyone with more info?

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

69_500

I didn't get anything in the mail from them yet. But I'm sure it will show up in a few days. If they are doing laps it must be around the track they just used for the Nationwide race.

Aero426

Winged Warriors is hosting the aero car gathering at MMW.   The event flyer says they will be doing track laps on the IRP half mile oval.

69_500

Well if any of you guys are coming to the show I'd be more than happy to have all the winged cars out here on say the Friday during the day like we did for the Monster Mopar over in St. Louis out at Rich's place.

I'll have to pass as well. That's just too far to drive for a weekend car show. St. Louis was just seven hours away. We could leave early and be there by lunch. I'm really disappointed that yet another show is moving further east. If I had to choose between going to Monster Mopar and Mopars at the Strip, Vegas would win every time.
The best Mopar show in the middle part of the country was the one that Stuart's group held at Heartland Park and now it's gone.
I'll just have to settle for driving the bird around here close to home I guess.  ;D

For any of you who are planning to go to the Monster Mopar in Indy in September, if you pre-register by this Sunday, August 21st, you will receive TWO passes for the weekend to the event. I know that doesn't leave much time to make plans, but you can pre-register on line at: www.monstermopar.com  and pay with PayPal or credit card.

For the past months, the MM website has erroneously stated that you only receive one pass into the event when you pre-register, but this is incorrect. Anyone paying at the gate will only receive one pass. Please pass this along to anyone that you know of that might have changed their mind about attending after seeing that they only get one pass. I don't have a lot of members' email addresses so if you could help get the word out, it will be greatly appreciated. Again, if they pre-register on line by Sunday, they will receive two passes.

Thank you and we hope to see all of you at the Monster Mopar!

Thinking of flying to Chicago, taking the 'tona out of its wraps, doing Indy then flying from there back to Tampa.
Still trying to work the logistics.

I will be bringing the Pre Production daytona or aka Dale Reeker car to the monster mopar show. This will be the first show it has been to in 30+ years. The car will be set up at The Finer Details (Ken Mosier) tent for the weekend.  Hope to see a lot of you there.

Hi John!

Just the fact that your car will be there makes me seriously think about a plan change for that weekend.  For those of you that will be there, it would be worth taking the time to stop by that tent and check out John's car.  It is a serious piece of Aero car history.

Thanks for bringing it out to its first show since, when... 1980?

John if your brining the car then I'll be over there taking hundreds of other photo's of the car. I was trying to get ahold of Ken to see about coming to see the car when you had it down at his shop but never got around to making it out there.

That sounds about right, but I am pretty sure Les brought the car to Milwaukee.    The deal might have taken place not long after that.

There was quite a few things that after I got home that day that I had wished I had taken pictures of. I guess we spent too much time taking measurements and photo's of the jack though. I get to looking at a few things and forget all of the other area's I wanna see.

My flight is booked.  I've got friends ready to help get the 'tona out of the garage.  I've got the hotel squared away,  Yup, it'll probably be my last event, so I'm going out with a bang!  Can't wait to catch up with old friends.

Does that mean that you'll just be simply leaving the Daytona here in my garage after the show? :)

I just spoke with Jim Campbell a few minutes ago, and as of this week he and most of the regular crew that ran the St. Louis version of Monster Mopar will be running the show at its new Indianapolis venue.  While the new promoter may have indeed been capable of organizing a great show, Jim C. and Mick are already well-schooled... after all, they have 27 years of experience with MMW alone.  Mick had previously committed to running the Swap and Car Corral areas, but Jim was only recently brought (back) on board.

It's good to hear there will be some continuity in place.  I'm still up in the air about coming, but will feel just a bit more comfortable knowing Jim & Co. are in charge.

At last word, there were around 200 pre-registered entries, which is down for what you'd expect at this stage.  There are usually a whole lot of folks who show up at the gate, so I do think they'll have a full show field (maybe a little too full??) when all is said and done.

69_500

I don't think that if they have 500+ cars show up they will be "too full" on the show field out there. I have been to plenty of shows over the years out there with more than 900+ cars for an event it wasn't that crowded. Depending on what area of the place they are using for "show" area that is.

Gene you gotta come so I can  :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: over that car.

Kismgby

Well I didn't preregister because I wasn't sure about lodging.  So I'm a "plus one" to the show field.  :yesnod: And as for my car staying in Indy....I'm hoping it DOESN'T go back to Chicago and finds a new daddy to take care of her.   :(  Though it'll be sad.
Or maybe I get a fresh face to move into the garage?   :drive:

If this does happen, it is something better than I expected.   At least the drag strip will be in operation.

The one year deal will be a referendum on the facility.    If you want to see racing at Gateway,  buy a ticket to the NHRA event.    If the fans do not turn out, watch for it to go dormant again.

we did the nhra each year, did quite a few wednesday nights, and a few of the weekend runs. plus monster mopar ofcourse. the drags always held up their end. it was the circle that didnt. :yesnod:

It may be easier for them to break even without having to pay the sanctioning fees to NASCAR or Indy Car.     NASCAR won't be back for a long time, if ever.

My main point was, this is a one shot deal for you guys.   We have the same situation here in Milwaukee with the oval.  Oldest track in the country, over 100 years old.    After two years dormant, we had an outside promotor hold an Indy Car race in June, and it drew 13,000 people.   They are not coming back.    In our situation, we're done.    The local public was apathetic.

41husk

Hopefully if it comes back Jim Campbell will start another version of monster mopar (the name MMW has been sold) maybe Central mopars or Mega Mopar :shruggy: Maybe with jim working with Josh this year the two can team up and bring Monster Mopar back to StLouis  Time will tell.  I am not a big race fan but if they come back I will buy tickets and go to try to keep them up and running!

How many of you guys exactly are going to be there? There should be (if all goes well in the next week and a half) designated parking for the AERO cars at the show. They want to try to get all the Winged cars together in one area. They are asking for an estimate on how many cars we will all have there. They said it should not be any problem if it is between 30-50 cars.
