LA Times Ad Research - Limited Time Offer for Aero Cars...

A friend who wishes to remain anonymous subscribed to the LA Times Archives website to do research on his cars from the LA area.  He completed his research, and his subscription will expire at the end of the year.

Anyone who knows that their Aero Car ever sold new or used in the LA area can provide their full VIN for free research by the subscription holder.  Below is an example of a good find, but only succeeded when the letter "O" was used in place of the digit "0" for the model year, AND "E" IN PLACE OF "A" FOR THE PLANT CODE...  Even if your car came from the LA area, the chances of a good find are probably less than 5%... still better than 0% tho...

I was going to try the LA times and Chicago times but they charged per article.The other sites we use for my girlfriend genelogy and my car ad searchs lets you search unlimited.The California cars do have complete vins in there ads

Are those all or mostly all California cars?  The LA Times Archives search engine is a POS... often not finding VINs from their own PDF images.  They must have used an Optical Character Reader from Harbor Freight...  In addition to the typical typos in the Ads, it makes for little progress... but we'll keep trying.

Even knowing the Daytona VIN with the typo from Dave's old posting, the search engine would not locate it...  It was finally located using some of the typo gibberish from the AD, i.e. "Only I ot Ih kind"...

Another good search technique is using shiplist search by dealer .It also provides dealers location for retro dealership registrys

I signed up for another newspaper archive and struck "pay dirt"...  postings will follow soon.

Here is one gem I scored... an ad for my Superbird RM23U0A170221 which was advertised extensively for over a week by OR Mitchell Chrysler Plymouth in January 1971.  The Superbird was finally sold three months later, on March 3, 1971 after about 15 months on OR Mitchell's lot.

Awesome documentation finding your own cars ad I did ran across a TX ad for 68 426 Charger about 1975 at a Ford dealer

As certain states ads didnt include the vin there is another way to pin point it to your particular from many on the lot .They usually had the stock number .I was able to match #2749 on the buyers invoice.That also appeared on the ad to a  superbird from my old neighborhood
My friend Joe D who bought it in 73 later sold it to Rocky D. Fl or SC.These ad are the dealer and the car advertised as stock number #2749 appeared on the sales paperwork

The article and picture I mentioned has not been mentioned or quoted in the DSAC. I have a 8x10 copy of the picture in the article, which shows much more than the cropped article picture. The 8x10 is copyrighted by the paper.

This TX superbirds story should be in the newspaper archives.the car was taken out on the dealer lot by hurricane celia.Except we dont know what dealer the car was sitting at when brick wall crushed it.I didnt find a plymouth dealer but found creveling dodge for corpus

The first picture in the above post shows the "Plymouth Superbird Wins Daytona 500" banner, behind the car, that there was a surviving example of at Carslile in 2009 or 2010. Very cool banner. Plymouth must have sent them to dealers as part of a quarterly promotion package.
