My only other idea is to do some plug welds by drilling holes in one of the two pieces and then use a mig welder to fill the hole. :Twocents:

This is prob what I'll end up doing. Plug weld, grind smooth, use spot welder between smooth plus welds to achieve factory look.

More pics.

Got the pass quarter skin cut off. Found the car to be very solid underneath.

More of the driver skin removed.

Did my first test fit of the drivers quarter. Lots of work to do to make it perfect. Biggest issue is the 1/2" gap between the quarter and wheelhouse mating surface.

Sorry for the lack of progress, was out of town setting up a new movie theater in Colorado for the past month. Anyways I've been back at it and making some good progress.

Still a lot of work to do before it's all done but it's nice to see the panels get test fitted. Makes me feel like there is an end to this in sight.
Hopefully I can get the car blasted next week so I can epoxy it then get to welding the panels.

Good job man, it's coming along nicely!  It'll be in primer before you know it.  Nothing like having a project finally in one color to boost moral!

Repaired my previous attemp at fixing the drivers wheel well. Fits perfect this time

Quarter extension done. I used the spot welder on this.

Rear end test fit.

Sprayed some undercoating on the quarters today. I used the resto Rick stuff. Came out good.

Definitely lots of work going on there. Looks great! Hats off for taking on such a big job right in the home garage. I can smell the paint fumes already!  :icon_smile_big:

Thanks for posting the pics. I'm just starting and don't know what I'm doing. I'm learning as I go which is half the fun. I've had to fend off the naysayers who tell me to get rid of the car and that it's too much work. Now I can show them your work and that will take care of that. Are you doing the welding? That is really good work I see. How did you learn to weld? I cut out a piece of bad metal behind the right front tire along the firewall and am feeling pretty good about my learning process. I got a long way to go but your work is an inspiration!

Be sure to coat the backside of the inside edge of that lip that holds the trim to the rear quarter window. It's a blind spot the factory missed in production and where my car rotted under the trim.
  Very good progress!  :2thumbs:

Having lots of problems with the valance corners. Can't get the quarter pushed over enough to meet the valance and make a nice gap before the quarter comes into contact with the trunk extension.... Been messing with it for a few days now.

I've not heard of any fitting right, you'll need to slice it, spread the gap til it fits and then insert a wedge to repair the opening. Both sides on mine required a triangular piece added 3/8" or so wide at the top along the quarter side. The valance side was ok, but had to adjust the angle it sat against the inner valance.

I had some problems with mine as well.Where did you get your corners? I'm not sure if charger specialists or AMD are the same, but this website was a great help. http://www.69hemi.com/sheet.html

Do you have any pics of this?

This pic shows the ground area where I inserted the filler wedge.  I can post better pics of the operation tonight....
Basically, I made it fit to the rear valance perfectly, ignoring the fit to the quarter.  Then sliced the corner piece vertically near the quarter panel, aligned and clamped the flap against the qtr then fill the opened up slice with a patch piece.  After it fit nice, I plug welded the corner to the qtr off the car.
You may also need to "adjust" your trunk extensions or grind down the mating flaps if the corner/qtr bottom doesn't pull in tight.
Another tip, I tacked a drilled tab to the bottom of the qtr, beneath the marker light, hooked a ratchet strap to the tab and pulled it gently in towards the frame.  This is better than palming the qtr which might dent/distort it

Ryan

Thanks for the explanation and the ratchet strap tip. I think I got the idea now. Still would like to see the other pics though when you can. Thanks again.

I don't have one showing the section before I welded it up, but this will hopefully clarify what I did
(and, yes I did blast again after this was taken!)
