if you look at it at the right angle you can see that it is V88 not V68.....paint looks a little thick but it is an 88

QuoteAs far as the bezels in my opinion on the overwhelming majority of unrestored cars I have looked at on C500's the bezels are typically body color not stripe color like on other R/T's.

This is very interesting. The 500 stripes were added at Creative, so it would seem that the marker light was not installed, the stripe went on, and then the marker replaced? Why would the marker light be out of the car in the first place? It doesnt seem necessary to do the required plug and deck work.  :shruggy:

nope, definately says V68.  :shruggy: That wasn't even an option on 69s was it? I have an older picture of that cars tag, but can't tell if it says 88 or 68?  :scratchchin:

tail stripes on Chargers get put on over the holes, and then the material is cut away for the light itself.  think about it--if the stripes had the holes already in them, how much extra time would that take on the assembly line to get it just right?  by allowing the line workers to get it close enough for 1969, they could slap the stripes on in no time.

the marker lights were installed by chrysler.  chargers arrived as complete (or nearly complete--did chrysler keep the grilles like with the daytonas?) and creative had to take them apart.

lots of early cars had body colored bezels as chrysler forgot to tell creative that they needed to be stripe color.

we bought the car before I was hired.  I head it came from the east coast, but who cares?  it was just there at a dealer flipping the car.  don't take my word for anything...see if I care.  shouldn't you be reposting that crashed picture of your superbird or some irrelevant picture of something that wasn't asked for?

Doug, any chance there was a typo on the original tag and it originally said V68? I can't see someone spending all that money to restore a rare hemi car, order a new fender tag, and NOT verify the info is correct. We all know that the factory has made mistakes before.... :shruggy:

pettybird

No.  I'm not sure who made it but Galen said it was fake, too...

I'd get another tag but I don't want to make another error.  Maybe I can bend Danny's arm to help me out

Interesting. So the bezel color typically only comes through on early cars vs. later ones?

My 500 was built in the middle of production. The stripe has been removed, and when I put it back on would it be most correct to leave the bezel body color?

I noticed in the advert from 2005 ( http://www.carpictures.com/Dodge/Charger-Hemi-500-NASCAR-1969-05ILL301815279 )   it says: "  and also some picture from before the car was restored. "..
Anyone seen the pics? And I suspect if there is it is only the right side of the car..
Has anyone gotten a comprehensive history on this car?

It didn't live a charmed life, I know that.  It was hit in the side (either not that hard OR Julius is a magician) and had typical midwestern rot.  The original 426 expired in the 70's and was replaced by a cobbled-up 383.  It went out west, and around 1995 Julius got his hands on it.  He did (in his words) a nice but not over the top restoration and sold the car.  It bounced around to a couple different dealers before winding up in our hands in a multicar deal.

So is this the only history you have on this car?
