440 engine id help

Hello. I need some help with engine id.
  I picked up a 1971 440 engine awhile ago. The id pad reads   
   
               C 440  A
           2   10    HPA    5
see pics.
from the  info i have the first letter is the year witch should be 1967 ?
the date on the side of the block is  12-8-70                                         
The guy i bought is from says it might be a 1971 440 6 pack engine.

 could be an error stamped C   but !!  looks like it could be a G     so                  G 440                    G means  71  series   model year

casting date  8th december

Check the VIN stamped in the passenger side of the block just above the pan gasket, that will verify the year.
