Reading between the lines on the auction description, the Daytona did not have the non-original engine.

Spent 20 plus years in a Nebraska restoration shop until 2003, when it received a rotisserie restoration, all photos included

Wow!   Don't bring your car there!  I'd be dead before it was completed!!!

WINGIN IT

As usual wing car prices were all over the place.
The 2 FY1 Superbirds, 1 auto 1 4 speed both number's matching and with Broadcast sheets.
Auto went to $93K, the 4 speed .... $185K !
I find it hard to believe that the resto was so bad on the auto that it warranted an almost 100K difference in price  :scratchchin:

It was however, the only 4 speed winged car offered in this auction .

Thanks Dave I thought it looked familiar.
That car sure has made the rounds. Seems like it has been a constant on the auction circuit. Hopefully it has good home now.

Is that the same bird that someone ran into with a golf cart on the day of the sale? I thought it went for $110K. I think it was the Tor-Red car.

There was a Tor-Red bird with white interior that went for $110K , not sure about the golf cart think though.

No kidding! But, I would also venture to say that there were many, many other reasons why it didn't sell for more.

And the drum brake master cylinder on a disc brake power booster?  Who does that?

Which car are you referring to John? The Daytona in the first link doesn't mention disc brakes in the description.... :shruggy:

if it has discs, it has the wrong master.  if it has drums, it has the wrong booster.

Gotcha, not familiar with the boosters, familiar with the M/C .

I spoke to someone today who saw the Mecum Daytona in person who was not impressed with it at all. He stated that he was less than impressed with the paint job and body panel alignment.   :Twocents:

So, then it looked like a "factory" (Creative Industries) correct finish :icon_smile_big:

I wish my winged cars were still worth as much as they were when the sale prices hit their peak some week in 2007, but they just aren't. What I own, and what this car is is something that was 98% put together on an assembly line. Special and collectable? Sure. Worth more than they were in 1976? Yup. Worth the 1998 or 2002 price? Maybe. The sale prices weren't that high in a lot of other years too.

Yesterday in the nearby grocery store parking lot there was a 1936 Cord Phaeton. I knew the owner and I talked to him for a bit. He bought in 2007. Seriously upside down for a car he had to put a lot of money in after the purchase. I think he has one of the greatest cars ever made, and a lot of others do too. Still it is a money pit. The simple demographics say someday I will be able to buy one too, more likely a Westchester though.
