Can i change these with the top ball joint attached. I bought this tool from american musle http://www.americanmuscle.biz/Upper_Control_Arm_Bushing_Remover_Installer_A_B_p/23471.htm
In other words undo the bushings and pull back the top control arm still being attached to the top ball joint.?

You could but if I were doing it, I would take the control arm out and do it more easily in a vice.  :Twocents:

I doubt you could get enough slack to do much but I guess it's possible with an impact gun. If not, I'd probably just take it all loose and replace the upper ball joints at the same time. Of course you'd need the special socket for the uppers...

Fred

If you are going to replace your upper ball joint you can get easily by without using a special socket. You can use a pipe wrench. That's what I used when I replaced mine without any trouble.  And you can save yourself the $40.00 plus shipping.

Yea, you can use anything you want to get them off but the new ones are supposed to be torqued to 125 ft. lbs. when installed - which is hard to do with a pipe wrench. :nana:

Fred

My torque wrench is my arm.  I can feel exactly how tight each nut has to be torqued down. For me it just comes naturally. (it's inate)
Some of us are better at it than others, I guess.  :nana:  :icon_smile_big:

You need to get yourself a bionic arm and you'll be good to go.

I needed a hydraulic press to push out my control arm bushings!  :brickwall: Couldn't do it with a c-clamp type balljoint/u-joint press.
If anyone needs the balljoint socket I'll sell ya mine.  ;D
