Early 68 dual snorkel air cleaner - which one?

The guy is working with me and I've been very apologetic for screwing his auction up. He says he's got some other air cleaners that might work for me but if not I've offered to pay him around $20 for his trouble. That or I could modify the one I bought, which I probably won't do because it's a nice one and deserves a good home on a '67. I could get it and resell it but I'd be lucky to break even after shipping. Unless there's a member in Alberta who needs one and would cash me out.

Ghoste

That sucks but hopefully one of the scenarios you describe will work out.

bull

I knew it was wrong the first time I saw it but I put it on my watch list along with a bunch of others and got them mixed up. 164 transactions and 100% feedback and I've never screwed up like that before on Ebay; should have never put it on my watch list. :rotz:

bull

He sent me a pic of this one. What would it be for? It looks exactly like the first pic I posted at the top of page 1 but that one does not have a breather tube fitting like this one does.

Mopar Nut

That one looks like a 68 383 breather, 69 has oval snorkels.

On page 2 Dan posted a pic of an October 67 build model 68 Charger with this air cleaner, said to be stock :shruggy::

That one looks like my 69 except the PVC is on the side of the breather, not the snorkel.

Mine also came with the wrinkle finish, I will take some pictures if I could get to it. The Charger is over at my brother-in-law's shop, behind two feet of snow.

:scratchchin:  interesting  confusing to say the least !! :yesnod:

also first  picture is a copy of a 68 sales brochure thingy , how accurate !! who knows  but its got the federal / trw power steering pump  :shruggy:

having said all this ,  below is a picture of a 383 2 barrel single  round snorkel air cleaner ( cars on Ebay at the minute )  , supposedly low milage originalish  , seen a number of these , one would think that the logical choice on a 4 barrel would be twin round snorkel on a 68 , not oval  ,  personally  i have not seen twin round snorkel air cleaner on a 68 charger ,   but who is to say chrysler did not use them up what they  had left over or something , i'm just hazarding a guess , but i doubt it

Interesting that the 2bbl air cleaner pic from the brochure above would accept a pie tin but the 4bbl version would not. :P

yes good spot , the 68 / 69 C-body use that too , & had exactly the same  single snorkel like that on my imperial motor all be it breather pipe on air cleaner body for 69 ! , no pie tin , but the remains of a decal , seen a few that look like pie tins  :shruggy:

But wait! There's more! Yet another variable I've seen, that being large indentations for A/C on some and very slight indentations on others. :brickwall: I assume my non-A/C air cleaner would have come without the large front indentation.

ODZKing

May 67 build.  67/383/4bbl.
They didn't take a pie tin.

Ghoste

Hey ODZ, mine is a late April build.  Our two are almost close enough to be cousins.

May 25 for mine and Steve's (ChargerSteve67) is June 1, I believe.
They all may have sat in the lot together waiting to ship!

Ghoste

I'd have to check again for the exact day but that would put mine about one month ahead of yours.

No, AFAIK the same "indented" air cleaner was used on all cars that required them, whether they had A/C or not.

And of course there is that other most American assembly line of factors, if it took aircleaner X but the installer grabbed air cleaner Y because stock was out, he was lazy, he misread the callout, whatever, then guess what?  Your car came originally with Y not X.  (I know I know, we aren't talking about anomolies here we are discussing what should be correct)

bull

Yes, there's already plenty of variables with what should be. Although what could be does offer us more options.

2 years off & wrong carb but I thought I'd post it anyways.  This was a Barrett car, '66 Coronet 383/4barrell.

ODZKing

Ohyeah, that isn't correct!
