Title: Few Questions On Rear Wheels/Tyres Options
Post by: JMF on August 11, 2017, 02:08:21 PM
Haven't bought a 68-70 Charger yet but already looking at wheel and tyre options, The American Racing Outlaw 1 wheels I will be buying, 235/60/15 with 15 x 7 on the fronts.

I want the rears to fill the arches as much as possible, I know this depends on how high the suspension is on the rear as to how big a tyre can go under there.

Details for the rear wheels are

15 x 10

Backspacing is 4.000 inches
Offset is -38.00 mm

Or

15 x 8

Backspacing is 3.750 inches
Offset is -19.00 mm

So just wondering on the rears whether to go

275/60/15 with 15 x 8

275/60/15 with 15 x 10

295/50/15 with 15 x 8

295/50/15 with 15 x 10

Am I right in thinking 295/50/15 is shorter than a 275/60/15 ? So the 295/50/15 would make the car sit lower at the back than a 275/60/15 ?

At a show the other day I saw a Charger with 295/60/15 on the rears, they may have been 295/65/15,  but i'm not sure if they are just racing tyres as they had the street/strip tread on them, this is the kind of look I want, see below pics.

Thanks

15x10 has to be 5 in BS , some run 5.5 bs with a .250 spacer, not all cars are the exact same. mine is 5 BSpace, but 5.125 would be better.

275/60 and 295/50 are too wide to fit on a 15x8 per typical manufacturer spec. That said, some people do it anyway.

Yes, 295/50 is quite a bit shorter than 275/60. About 26" vs 28" depending on manufacturer. So they car will sit lower in the rear with 295/50s.

Here's a link to my old setup. 295 50 15 on a 10 inch wide wheel with 5.5 inch backspacing.

Completely stock 8 & 3/4 rear end with stock leaf spring location.

They only rubbed the inside of the wheel wells when turning up into sharp driveways.

I like that they tucked inside the quarters. I would definitely stick with the 5.5 inch backspacing if  the old school look was my taste.

This is exactly where i am at now. I've got 15x10 rims with 5.5bs.
I want a tall tire, but am afraid that a 275/60 will look bad on the 10 inch rim.

Can't find a taller tire than 295/50 with the normal street tread.
Mickey thompson has the 295/65 but with the drag tread, how will that handle for a street car,
Which can end up in wet conditions sometimes.

Greets,
Chris

This little calculator page is great.  Visually compare two sizes side-by-side.
