Well I have posted many pics of my Daytona clone over the years because i have had it for quite a long time.I started with a 68 charger that i wanted built and was devastated when my painter refused to paint it and put his name on all of the shoddy body work that was done on the car when i bought it. So I moved on and donated it the the Ronnie's Charger make a wish project it later became the Blue 1969 charger that was given to her Family. after donating the car i searched for a nice 68 charger that was not a fortune to add all the parts i had collected over the years then i came across a rust free 1970 base 318 charger so i bought it with hopes of building a clone Daytona and wow its been difficult researching what you need to buy and not to buy i often joked with guys on this site about making a guide book of parts and procedures on building a Daytona or Superbird which would be very helpful for people that want to build one but have no clue what it takes. Luckily for me two of my friends are some of the Best restorers of SuperBirds and Daytona's in the country so it Didn't take long to collect the parts needed to perform the task I even had great examples of real cars at my disposal. The problem was they were both too busy to perform the work so it sat idle for quite a while while collecting parts and deciding what to do with it. Then i had a dream or epiphany that it needed to be a pro touring Daytona low to the ground with big meats and a savage motor and super clean interior .I had a local builder start on it and before long it sat idle again with almost no progress being made. We made a mutual agreement to part ways and there the car sat once again we are talking almost ten years at this point i then started looking at professional build shops that could make my dream a reality. When it comes to Mopars i have built some very cool cars over the years and i could have built this one but what i want is beyond most people's capability including mine. So i set out to find an awesome builder i looked and talked to several well known shops in the mid west and finally narrowed it down to six shops that i thought would do quality work.
The super rod shop was one its the guy who built the Green slam charger after talking with him on the phone I was not impressed by his knowledge of Mopar's in general His cars were cool looking but i thought the fabrication was shoddy something that i could probably do in my own shop .
The Roadster shop built awesome cars but was too expensive and wanted to quickly build the car.
Detroit speed and engineering was also very expensive per hour and also wanted to crank the project out quickly.
Greening automotive in Nashville builds some fine automobiles and was very easy to talk to and had knowledge in all makes and models he was in the process of building a sweet 69 valiant with a 392 fuel injected Hemi.
Goolsby custom cars was also in the running affordable and builds quality cars and was very eager to Do a mopar
And last but not least Holohans hot rod shop i had seen Dan Holohans work for years it just never really had his name attached to some of the cars i had seen . I had ran across his name one day looking on lateral g forums a pro touring car website and clicked on a project he was building the metal work was incredible and attention to detail perfect i later found out he had left his former employer for a job at Detroit speed and when that didn't work out he opened his own shop in Moorsville NC Home of nascar shops galore. Oh remember i had seen his name before somewhere and heard it many times before his former boss was none other than Troy Trepanier of rad rides by Troy and Dan was very instrumental in many high profile builds doing most if not all the metal work this includes the 1970 Cuda build for Joe Rogan or ( Sickfish) build as most of you know it. After talking to Dan two or three times we clicked he is a Great person and Fabrication skills are some of the best you will ever see so i chose his shop to perform the work on my dream Mopar My Daytona so we set down made a plan a 5 year build is where we set it then decided on an approximate budget. here is a photo album link to his shop and his work keep in mind the car is not for purists out there but this was my dream of how it needs to be built and that's what he is doing for Me hope you liked my story and Daytona Build its going to be Epic he is 1.5 years into it stay tuned for more progress . Sounds really cool! My Facebook appears to be down at the moment so I'll have to look at the pictures later.
Troy
Looks like a very bad ass Charger Daytona on the way. If the rest of the car comes out as good as his metal work you will have one top notch piece. :yesnod: :yesnod: :coolgleamA: :coolgleamA: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
Thanks Stevarino i have been following yours as well Solid quality work and a lot of work a friend just done a 1964 ford ranch wagon that way he started with a 10,000 mile 98 mercury marauder and grafted the wagon on top its unreal all the little things he had to modify to make it fit. so i know first hand what your going thru.
Thanks for the compliment. I gotta say the way he is metal finishing all the welds is beyond what most would do. Not afraid to show the finish work in stark detail. He is also very careful not to distort the metal. Not easy to do.
:coolgleamA: :2thumbs: .................. :popcrn:
The start
drivers Quarter work
smoothed the rear marker lights
:popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:    :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :drool5: :2thumbs:
Some more pics of the Daytona Build. Dan Holohan Tig welds every weld then finishes it to perfection so there will be very Minimal body work needed in the final finish. :popcrn:
Pics of the quarter panel finished out. Next pics building a frame rack slash jig so the ride height is established and the car does not move while many other tasks are done
WOW, :2thumbs: Is that TIG welding on the quarters ?
Its now on the frame rack the tires were purchased to get the stance and ride height just perfect. There will be a whole new frame and floor in this car so the next pics are getting rid of the floor and jigging in the new front end no more K frame this is the third variation of front end i originally used stock K frame and had it built to use with air ride. Then sold it and went with RMS system after discussing it in length about how modified it would have to be i sold it as well and Dan opted for a detroit speed Muscle car Front suspension set up and full frame.
Cutting out the floor and Mocking up the new front suspension. Dan cut out the floor and rear sub frame that i had another shop do it was not right so it had to go.
The Power Plant 500 cubic inch Stroker motor built by Hensley racing Backed up by a Keisler 6 speed automatic overdrive transmission and Paddle shift the motor will now be equipped with Fuel injection and custom made intake and exhaust with twin Nelson 72mm mirror image Turbo's.
WOW.
Just Wow.
Holy guacamole that is sweet!!! :drool5:
What size wheels are you going with?
The sizes will be 19x12 front 20X16 rear you can see the mickey thompson tires in the back ground of the side shot of the car on the rack. i have a few wheels in mind although not for most of the old timers on here. :popcrn:
Holy Bejusus :drool5:
Dan is cutting the sheet metal and Jigging up the front end then cutting out the rest of the frame and sheetmetal
Cutting out all the sheet metal in floor and frame to make way for a new custom made frame including cutting out previously done work. :popcrn:
Last Pictures for a bit until more are available Pictures show Dan cutting off previously done passenger quarter panel and then adding rust preventive coating to the underneath side and where the window regulator attaches
the next picture Dan has added weld or metal to the Bottom of the wing pedestal this is a Cast Dane version of the Daytona wing which is a quality product already. Dan Holohan Had decided to add material to make it look more finished out and a little wider
Last pictures shows Dan Mocking up the rear end at ride Height and what the massive Meats will look like uner the car they are 20x16 mickey Thompson rear tires
next picture shows my rendering Paint color chosen is new Chrysler Patriot Blue with black stripe and black interior.
Stay tuned Dan Holohan has some cool tricks up his sleeve including making a Nose cone from aluminum sheet cant wait to share Those pictures. :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:
please if you want to follow the build directly like Holohans hot rod shop and follow Bobs Daytona and show him how much Mopars and Daytona's are loved He as a shop full of Chevy's and Fords and my Daytona is the lone wolf.

...Ferocious!
First off, love the build, and thanks for sharing. Now I have 3 threads to follow!!
Second, your pics speak volumes for that shop. WOW. You sir went to the right place.
Third, with the skills shown, are you planning on enhancing the body as much as your rendering is?
Lastly, I'm going to share this with the brothers. They will approve.
Beautiful !
Thanks I appreciate that yes definitely the right shop Dan has unreal metal fab skills and yes pretty much everything you see in the renderings will be done to the car while keeping most of the original body lines it should look very close to the rendering. What brothers are you talking about the ring brothers
Thanks John A I'm still working on mine years after Pj got yours done but it's in the right hands now.
My fellow local Mopar brethren of course!

Be shure to check out Holohans hot rod shop in Moorsville NC and like his facebook page to follow my Daytona Build its going to be Epic and i definitely picked the right fabricator to make it happen. :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:
:2thumbs: :coolgleamA: :popcrn:
Check out these new pictures this is how talented and detail oriented Dan Holohan is he took the time to build a die to stamp recessed metal pads for the wing pads to sit down in unreal attention to detail. thought i would share i bet you have never seen that one. :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5:
Very nice indeed ! Show a few pics of the press and how many ton it is
If you don't mind me asking, what kinda of money is a build like this cost? I know things change with unforeseen problems or changes but I'm just curious of what you budgeted to complete something like this.
Well that is a million dollar question the orange Mayhem 69 Charger that was just built by Detroit speed is rumored to have cost in the $900,000.00 range
Quote from: unrulyprocuda on November 03, 2015, 11:56:35 AM
Well that is a million dollar question the orange Mayhem 69 Charger that was just built by Detroit speed is rumored to have cost in the $900,000.00 range with parts and labor this is one of the reasons searching for the right shop is key Detroit speeds labor rate is 150 hr and they want to bust ass on it and get it out the door quickly. I had to think long and hard on this I am not a rich man Holohans shop charges 75-80 an hour and you get an honest hours worth of work I have $100,000.00 in parts when finished and estimated 100k more in labor when all is said and done and the car drives out of the shop finished my build should cost around 200k not unusual for this calibre of a one of a kind car silly to most but not much more than a nice original Bird or Daytona. This shop also worked within my budget of 20k a year for five years which is something most will not plus i have been collecting parts for ten years.
look at it this way you saved 700 k :icon_smile_big: by going to Holohans
 Good way to think about it MoparStuart
I for one am glad you decided against Detroit Speed. Only one reason. I tried to get some information about the custom tail light they made for the Mayhem 69 Charger and I left a few messages and never got a return phone call. I have a problem with anyone who thinks they are too good to return a simple phone call. Part of an ignorant and arrogant attitude that prevails today with people. Also after watching in amazement at the sheet metal work on that build I was horribly disappointed with the color combo. So I am glad you are doing the project where you are. It looks amazing and is top shelf so far. :2thumbs:
Man Thanks and yes i agree totally on color choice it was terrible. And I hate that about most arrogant shops like Detroit speed at least answer some questions i know its all top secret Nasa type shit but come on. I look at them like Indy Cylinder head you spend thousands of dollars and when something fails its always your fault my friend spent 60 grand there and they would not even give him a jacket.
I Wish you would have asked me about the tail light assembly supposedly it was made by Jesse Greening from Greening auto company in Nashville they made the tail light from solid billett aluminum it cost between 5k to 10k and it took forever to make.He makes some awesome one off Billet pieces but its expensive.
Im shure you have come up with a cleaver way to set yours apart from the rest. Im going with a stock 2012 Challenger slightly modified taillight although ive been looking at the 2015 version they kind of resemble 69 charger tail lights. I always enjoy your cars updates looks like the home stretch soon. Here is a some pics i snapped of the car in question.it was nice but he will never be able to recoup a quarter of what he spent.
look what My 12 year old son Made him a car like Dads on Forza horizon 3 he did a great job
NICE!
This is freaking amazing work. Just in awe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dane
Thanks Dane you do know it has your wing on it sorry to steal your color from your car almost. A few years ago when you finished your car and picked the paint i said Damn to my self i had already picked the color for mine but it was nice to see what it looked like on a Daytona and i love your new Daytona as well as your yellow car keep watching this build it will be Epic Dan Holohan is a Badass metal fab guy
I'm sure you put the cars together and the color will be different. Your wheel and wing combo pulls of this dark wing.
Dane
Awesome build!
Finally another restomod/protouring project :) Im building a 68 Charger in the same category, but not with the same brutal engine as you though. I have just ordered big Wilwood brakes and a complete Air ride from Ridetech. Planning to run 9x20" and 12x20" wheels and a stroked 440. Will follow your project for sure :)
I just sold everything you were talking about Phantom including an Alterkation front end a few months back and a set of 8x20 and 10x22 billet specialties wheels they were pictured in the first few pictures . Goodluck with your build sounds super cool.
Blocked from Face blooked,,,book an a number of others here gave up or dont do face plant,,mean book!!
Could you put some progress pix here for those non face people?? Thanks i sure want to see this awesum beast come to life.. DJ out west near DAne his last 2 are awesum Daytonas. :popcrn: :drool5: :2thumbs:
Before I get emotionally invested in this car I have a serious question. Is this car a keeper and will it be driven?
Seen too many of these become fantasy cars for sale with a $300k price tag.
Dj i certainly will post all build pics I understand i am not on facebook either. Its slow going right now Dan Holohans shop has only been open for a few years since he left Rad Rides and Troy Trepanier and went to Detroit Speed for a few years then decided to open his own shop he has several projects in his shop including mine and unfortunately he cannot find Qualified help as of late and is doing all the work himself. My car is his first Complete Build from start to finish though so it will be huge for his shop and Dan himself never to worry with cars like Sickfish and Chicayne under his belt he is an under the radar badass car builder its just going to take a bit to get it built but that was alright with me since i Did not have a ton of money up front to have the car built we are on the five year or so plan.
Homerr go ahead and get invested the plan with the Daytona is to Show the car for a few years then drive the hell out of it.Since this is the first full build from Holohans Hot rod shop i would like to travel to some shows and get Dan some accolades for his shop and skills first so it will be a trailer queen at first.
Here is the full rendering its Going to be Epic Meet ENVIOUS :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5:
love the long full tail lite, but not the big thing back up lite in middle?? seems maybee color tint it or remove it ,an have red lence all the way.. or make a nice trim frame to cover part of it with charger or DAYTona emblem in the middle covering more of the back up lite? just my opinion,,total your awesum build ,so build your way an we will all enjoy it too.. :popcrn: :popcrn: :drool5: :popcrn: :popcrn: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
Dj I like Suggestions always when we start finishing this car i am sure we will have new Ideas hell its already been 10 years with hundreds of changes and different parts. And to think i only wanted a Driver Daytona when i started. :2thumbs:
Love the build and not trying to mess with your design but why go with the 2008-2013 tail lights? Your build is top notch so why copy what people have been doing for the last few years? Why not go with the 2015-16 challenger tail lights, That hasn't been done yet as far as I know. :shruggy:
I have been pondering that exact comment its very possible that could change from the rendering.
My Chally is a 10, I like those tail lights better than the new ones. Just for input it comes up as a topic at the cruise ins that the earlier tail lights look like tail lights whereas 15-16 sorta have a cheaper look like plastic fascia stuck on them. May look great on yours but something to take another look at.
Whats happening, any new info? iam still blocked on face block an wondering? :2thumbs: :popcrn: DJ
Just a Few Things Happening with the Daytona Passenger side Quarter is Finished and we Changed things up a bit Decided to go with a 2016 Tail light package that will soon be Installed as well as a full custom made Chrome molly tube Chassis that im sure will be a work of Art.

CanĀ“t wait to see it finished.
Yes and Fortunately you are the only people in the world that Know about it.Even the Builder wanted to keep it under wraps until it was finished. But me im so excited i had to show someone.

great project, I love it. Just curious as to why the tube chassis in a pro touring ride? Isn't pro touring supposed to have nice comfy interiors and be more on the practical side?

I'd agree with that, but to each his own....
I know its hard to get the vision we have decided to go with 2018 Challenger Taillights instead of the old style Challenger taillights what do you think they actually look a lot like the the factory 69 units
Followed a new challenger an only the outer half of each light lights for stop an blinker. Is there a way to change it so the whole lite lights up?? Ilike the full old lite except the big back up lite in the middle.
it will look great with either, you car ,your way.Hope to see more progress on body an build. :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:  DJ

Where did you see that this project was for sale?
I saw it on Ebay.
The rest of the Ebay ad..
Project Envious is a 1970 Charger with all the Accesories to make it a 1969 Dodge Charger Replica Hundreds of Thousands spent up to this point
This is a Deal but not a Fire sale. It took me several years to collect all the parts and research what was needed to build the Ultimate Pro Touring Car
The Metal Fab work to this point is top notch Literally almost Steel panel has been touched on this car.
But its Time to Possibly say Goodbye and Let someone else finish it and get all the prestige and acclimation from such a Build
This Car would literally grace the Pages of Every Magazine in the free world if it continues on the path that its on.

Thanks farm966. That is a shame. Looked like a really ambitious plan when it was started. No way around the amount of time and money it was going to cost. Better have unlimited funds for something like this. Especially if you are employing a top notch fabricator which appears to have been the case from the progress pics.

I agree with you 100%. It looked like it was going to be first class fabrication, which doesnt come cheap, unless you can do it yourself. Not all of us are as talented as you Steve! You need buckets full of cash to let a shop complete a car for you like that.
I'm feeling real good about the Daytona stock car clone that I bought from a fellow DC.COM member, when I see the money they are looking for on this car. I have a thread on Moparts in the members project section, and on Forbbodiesonly in the wingcar section. I would have to resize all the pictures to post them here. The thread is titled "a stock car flaming with a loser at the cruise control ". The chassis on my car is a modern Loughlin Nascar chassis built by a Nascar shop.

I'm feeling real good about the Daytona stock car clone that I bought from a fellow DC.COM member, when I see the money they are looking for on this car. Here is the link to your pics at ForBBodiesonly

Thanks for posting the link. I am semi computer literate. I don't want to bad mouth anyone's project, but to get that asking price, the owner would atleast have to finish the fabrication work. The former owner of my car gave me an amazing deal on it.
Thanks for the compliment farm966 and chargervert I just went over to look at your thread on forbbodiesonly and you are having way too much fun. That gonna be a blast to drive. :coolgleamA: :coolgleamA:
Steve,I followed your Daytona build, and your work is nothing short of amazing. Your car came out incredible. I can only hope that I can get mine anywhere near the level of yours. This Daytona in this thread was also going to be amazing as well. I cannot see this car bringing six figures in its current state. It is almost impossible to recoup the total amount invested on an unfinished project car, especially with a significant amount of fabrication left to do.
Thanks for the compliment chargervert. You being right in the middle of a big build know just what kind of an effort it is. I just really hate the idea of this car in bare metal accumulating rust for the lack of a serious buyer. He should really consider selling it as components. He could probably get more for everything separately. The idea that someone will want to complete the car as originally designed may be a little unrealistc.
Check out the New Thread on this Build its been moved to Platinum custom cars in Manteeno Illinois and more has been done in 4 Months than 4 years at the other shop.https://www.facebook.com/platinumcustomcars84/?__tn__=kC-R&eid=ARCu9jhHzflJu7Ffm4RNGNUZiqtQ8urCxQOFAGFbLatEPuJl1UsfcraGFMzYsFUfpPpNXYBdklZatsNp&hc_ref=ARSSCP6LyXnFruhCMV1mhWvEfQ0j5oh6X0kK7eijJSrDJ7KFxxOvsebBxCqkKm6eN_s&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARA1aqCs2VLTC6YSZtnIVqxhM9cidz1Sjylpyv9UYFjMqLc3yygAFEJnI1rJifK0VI74zydY9biYC7CFKaEfP7j9uP7n1RHths1OZVnze8QjVYC4opbEa98hSbmOxsJIUdpk5Xoou48nUu9FNaNlI8Ne_b5AZaraYOTo6IqVWf4kYeS-ruRclw
